5 Thoughts On Texas Tech 17, WVU 48

I don’t know what to think anymore

NCAA Football: West Virginia at Texas Tech Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Defensively, It Wasn’t All Bad

The defense did what they could, especially when the offense didn’t help them out a ton. They’re holding up their end of the bargain, they’re preforming functionally. The offense for some reason can’t catch up.

However, The Pass Rush Was Atrocious

I honestly can’t believe how bad that pass rush was. There’s no reason for it to be that bad, especially when we blitz. There were so many missed opportunities defensively that we couldn’t capitalize on due to the inability to pressure Skyler Howard at all.

On The Other Side Of The Ball, The Texas Tech Offensive Line Was Just Bad

There’s no reason to have a guy like Patrick Mahomes if you can’t protect him. He’s being pressured nearly every single play. He’s being hit a majority of those times. We can’t expect him to make plays if he doesn’t have any time.

We’re Running Patrick Mahomes Into The Ground

We have arguably the best quarterback in Texas Tech history and we’re just going to beat him into the turf until he has nothing else left to give. He’s a dominant quarterback, and has given everything to this program.

Of all the people I feel sad for, I feel sad for him the most.

I Hope This Isn’t The Beginning Of A Meltdown

I like Kliff Kingsbury. He’s a Red Raider, and came here when he surely had other offers. He’s stuck with his guys, handled discipline well, and has been all Texas Tech the entire time that he’s here.

He’s now officially on the hot seat, deserved or not. His teams have failed to get better with penalties and in key portions of the game they failed to execute.

The key now is not to completely melt down and to salvage what’s left of this season. There’s a path to six wins and a bowl, but if we play like we did today, we won’t make it there.

If there was ever a time to circle the wagons in Kliff Kingsbury’s career, this is it. He needs to win, and he needs to win now. Nothing else will be good enough.
