Week 7 Big 12 Power Rankings

I picked a rough season to sign up for the power rankings. Nearly every game in the Big 12 the last couple weeks has been decided by a touchdown or less. This is difficult and there’s plenty of room for debate, so don’t go too hard on me. Anyway, here we go:

1. Baylor [5-0]: BYE (LW: 1)

2. West Virginia [4-0]: BYE (LW: 2)

Both coming off a bye, we didn’t learn much about the two remaining unbeaten teams in the Big 12. They keep their spot for now.

3. Oklahoma [3-2]: W vs. Texas (LW: 3)

The Sooners won a rivalry game they’ve struggled with recently, and I still believe they’ll make a run at a Big 12 title.

4. Oklahoma State [4-2]: W @ Iowa State (LW: 4)

Like Baylor two weeks ago, Oklahoma State struggled to put away the Cyclones. To their credit, Iowa State could be improving rapidly. RIght now, Oklahoma State has the most wins over Power 5 teams in the conference.

5. Kansas State [3-2]: W vs. Texas Tech (LW: 7)

Well, the Fightin’ Snyders found a way to win by being the more disciplined team, cashing in a pick six, and returning a kick to the house.

6. TCU [4-2]: W @ Kansas (LW: 5)

The Frogs probably should have lost in Lawrence, the latest disappointing performance from them this year.

7. Texas [2-3]: L @ Oklahoma (LW: 6)

“Texas is back” to contemplating whether or not they should fire their head coach in the middle of the season.

8. Texas Tech [3-2]: L @ Kansas State (LW: 8)

The defense might be improving slowly, but Mahomes’ shoulder injury clearly contributed to falling short in the second half in Manhattan. The Red Raiders have a long way to go if they want to win some Big 12 games.

9. Iowa State [1-5]: L vs. Oklahoma State (LW: 9)

The Cyclones fell short on a second straight upset bid. Before the season is over, they look like they’ll knock off somebody they’re not supposed to.

10. Kansas [1-4]: L vs. TCU (LW: 10)

The Jayhawks were oh so close to a Big 12 win, but came up shy by missing a field goal as time expired. Now that Tech is off their schedule, I hope they pull one off.
