I hope Monday's History Lesson wet your appetite for a look into and at United Supermarkets Arena. I loved going to this arena during my undergrad years. I went to roughly 80% of the home basketball games. I also attended a George Strait/Reba McEntire co-headeliner show and a bit of rock music history. Bon Jovi played a concert there on March 17, 2013, that was the last gig that their superstar guitarist, Richie Sambora, was a part of the band. I'm sure many of you also have many great memories with family and friends there!
This is a cool behind the scenes video of the USA. I found the hotel room tax to be one of the interesting points in this video.
This is the video announcing the name change from the United Spirit Arena to the United Supermarkets Arena, and where the naming rights money will go.
This is one of the most significant moments in the history of The USA. Bobby Knight broke the then all-time coaching wins record on New Year's Day 2007. Excuse the sappy music in the middle onwards in the video....
On the other end of the "significant moment" spectrum... Current men's head basketball coach, Tubby Smith, committed, arguably, the biggest blooper in TTU athletics history in The USA. Fortunately, he was unhurt and gave us all a chuckle.
There have been many more greats moments at United Supermarkets Arena. Heart-pounding basketball and volleyball games/matched, exciting concerts, and half-time weiner dog races have kept Texas Tech students, alumni, and Lubbock entertained since 1999. What more can you ask of a basketball arena? GUNS UP!
