Texas Tech Adds To The 2016 Class

Texas Tech lands another receiver.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

On a busy Friday, Tech lands their second commit of the day. Wide receiver TJ Vasher from Wichita Falls Rider verbally committed to the Red Raiders. He is listed at 6'5", 180 pounds. His coach at Rider is none other than former Tech standout receiver Eric Ward. He is a 4-star recruit per Rivals, Scout, 247 and ESPN. He is the now highest ranked recruit in Tech's 2016 to this point.

He is the 6th receiver to commit of the Red Raider 2016 class and the 4th receiver of the class listed at 6'4" or taller. There is definitely a vision of what the coaches want in their outside receivers. The 2016 JUCO WR commits (Willies and Bowman) will most likely be counted back towards the 2015 class since they are early enrollees and there are still a few spots available to use towards the 2015 class, but I really hope this is the last WR commit of the this recruiting cycle. There were plenty of rumors floating around this week about JF Thomas not qualifying. Who knows what is true at this point. Regardless, if he does qualify that makes 12 receivers in the last two classes and if he doesn't qualify it makes 11 receivers taken in the last two classes. Either way that should be enough unless an absolute monster recruit falls into your lap.

Drew had a write up on Vasher a few weeks ago. Read it here. I think he does everything well. He obviously has good size. He also has good speed. He is good with the ball in his hands. You see him running a bunch of comeback routes, which is an indication they are playing over the top of him to stop the fly or 9 route indicating he has good speed. He cuts them short and it is easy pitch and catch for Vasher and the QB. On the comeback route, he does a good job of dropping his hips and getting out of the cut quickly. He doesn't run a large variety of routes in the video below but he is a very solid route runner.
