13 Red Raiders Make Phil Steele's All-Big 12 Team

Phil Steele releases his All-Big 12 Teams.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Phil Steele's Preseason All-Big 12 Team is out. Several Red Raiders were named to the team. Offensively, Le'Raven Clark and Alfredo Morales were on the first team.  The second team consisted of DeAndre Washington, while the third and fourth teams had Patrick Mahomes (3rd Team), Jakeem Grant (3rd Team), Devin Lauderdale (3rd Team), and Jared Kaster (4th Team). The Red Raiders were represented pretty well on the offensive side of the ball.

Defensively, four Red Raiders made one of Phil Steele's four All-Big 12 Defensive teams. Pete Robertson (2nd Team), Mike Mitchell (3rd Team), Branden Jackson (4th Team) and Justis Nelson (4th Team) were the only Red Raiders chosen.

Red Raider punter, Taylor Symmank, was chosen as the 1st Team Punter and Jakeem Grant as the 3rd Team Kick Returner  on Steele's Special Teams All-Big 12 Team.

A few interesting notes....Tech ranks #4 by total number of players. The more I start studying up on this season the more optimistic about this season......Seth Russell from Baylor is listed as the 2nd Team Quarterback and Patrick Mahomes as the 3rd Team QB. This flies in the face of a lot of preseason teams that are projecting Mason Rudolph (Ok State) to have a big season......Never would have guessed I would see Washington in front of Jonathan Gray based on high school careers, even in preseason rankings. Not saying that I don't agree, but just interesting to see......Mike Mitchell on the 3rd Team seems like a bit of a stretch. I would be pleased if he ended up on the 3rd Team Postseason All-Big 12 Team.
