Early in the season, it seemed like the only press I could find about Danny Amendola was about him disappearing and many journalists wondering why Tom Brady threw so few passes to our favorite Patriot. Then, in the back half of the season due to injuries and other factors, Amendola's role continued to increase. I think it is safe to say he peaked at just the right time.
Regardless of our NFL allegiances, as Red Raiders, we celebrated each pass Amendola caught last night, especially when we got to yell, "Touchdown, Red Raiders!" late in the game. Of course, it was doubly fun to see him beat former-Longhorn Earl Thomas on the play. You can see the catch again here.
It wasn't long ago that a trade for Amendola seemed likely, but now national writers are talking about him earning his keep. Boston writer Eric Frenz thinks his stock is way up:
Danny Amendola: With a game plan predicated on attacking the Seahawks' No. 3 and 4 cornerbacks, Danny Amendola always appeared to be in line for a strong performance. The slot receiver caught five passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, with some catches on drag routes underneath and stick routes on the outside to allow him to catch the ball and create extra yards.
It is certainly great to have another Red Raider with a Super Bowl ring, and perhaps most fun of all was Amendola getting to be on Jimmy Fallon alongside Will Ferrell. What a dream come true, and he handled it well.
Congratulations and Guns Up, Danny! We can't wait to see what your future holds!
