Is Texas Tech Basketball Turning the Corner?

New, 9 comments

The first six games have given the team something great to build on in December. Let's see what we know about this team so far.

The Red Raider basketball team is off to a strong start with a record of 5-1. Has Tubby Smith's team turned the corner and ready to compete in conference play? We still have much to see, but all the early signs are pointing to yes.

Tech's RPI ranking is #7.

That ESPN #7 RPI ranking is the highest in the Big 12 Conference. The RPI is being bolstered by the 5-1 record against a strength of schedule that is also ranked 7th nationally.

We are winning away from home.

Last year's team was a dismal 0-13 away from the United Supermarkets Arena. The 2015-16 away record is 2-1 with the wins being against power conference teams.

Tubby Smith mentioned in his post-game press conference last night that his team "was understanding our defensive philosophy and executing things the right way". It is so refreshing to watch these players in position to challenge shots and help one another on defense.
The Red Raiders have 5 non-conference games left in December, all at home. Conference play begins on January 2nd at home against the Texas Longhorns.
