Red Raider Gridiron: Webb is Game Time Decision; Wallerstedt to Receive 6 Months Pay

QB Davis Webb is a game-time decision for Kansas State. The LAJ obtained the settlement agreement between Texas Tech and Matt Wallerstedt.

Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

I'm back from a long weekend away. I'm really catching up over 3 days, so if you're in the same boat as I am, well then that's great. If it isn't, then some of this will be repeat information, so sorry about that. And just to be sure, from what I can tell about the Big 12, Charlie Weis was fired at Kansas and Kansas State's Bill Snyder was told he couldn't wear his year old bowl game windbreaker any more.  You miss a weekend, you miss a lot.

Webb A Game Time Decision. The LAJ is reporting that QB Davis Webb is a game-time decision for the Kansas State game.  Again, I'm sure that this is something that's been discussed, but why announce a player as a game-time decision when the game is at least a week away? Seemed like that you could have played your cards a little closer to the vest if that's what you wanted to do. That seemed odd to when when I was catching up.

Texas Tech to Give Wallerstedt Six Months Pay. Also being reported by the LAJ is that Matt Wallerstedt will receive six months pay as part of his settlement in resigning a couple of weeks ago:

Wallerstedt resigned on Sept. 18, three games into his second season on the staff. The next day, Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt sent Wallerstedt a letter agreeing to pay him a lump sum equivalent to his base salary through March 31.

Tech also agreed to pay Wallerstedt for his accrued vacation time and reimburse him for COBRA insurance coverage through March 31.

In return, Wallerstedt agrees to release and hold Tech blameless from any further claims related to his employment or resignation.

Of course, a lot of you may be thinking, why settle, "IMMUNITY Y'ALL," but athletic director Kirby Hocutt runs a different ship than most. Wallerstedt had another year on his contract so this seems like a fair way of settling this issue.

Anthony Smith Has Struggles. The LAJ has a good story on DT Anthony Smith, who had a sister pass away in January of this year, plus his mother passed away at a very young age.  Just a lot for a guy to have to go through and no mention of his father in the article.  Smith is being raised by his sister's sister, Ina Hightower.

Miscellaneous. FoxSports David Ubben has his Big 12 power rankings and Texas Tech moved up a spot, I think, but only because Iowa State is apparently terrible . . . also from Ubben is the best and worst from week 5, but only includes on Texas Tech stat, the penalties . . . San Antonio Express-News Tim Griffin has his state of Texas rankings and has Texas Tech 5th, which may surprise you . . .
