New, comments

The Opening begins with Jarrett Stidham and Breiden Fehoko in Oregon. The LAJ considers depth at cornerback. And our condolences to the Elliot Richoux family after he died over the weekend.

Condolences to Elliot Richoux Family. Eliot Richoux played for Texas Tech in 2013 and he died over the weekend in a drowning accident in Lake Conroe where Elliot jumped off of a dock in shallow water.  Texas Tech and head coach Tim Tadlock released a statement:

"We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news involving Elliot," head coach Tim Tadlock said. "We want to offer our condolences to his mother, Deborah, and father, David. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time."

The Opening Begins. Texas Tech commit QB Jarrett Stidham is at The Opening over the next few days, as well as is Davis Webb as an counselor, so that's pretty cool.  There's this short post about Stidham and Kyler Murrey competing for the best dual threat quarterback as well as the best quarterback from the same region. Also at the opening is another Texas Tech commit DT Breiden Fehoko.  Anything that pops up on either of them, I'll let you know.

Pat Knight Hired by Pacers. Pat Knight may not have been the best basketball coach, but I always thought he was a nice guy.  In any event, Pat was hired by the Indiana Pacers as a scout, so good luck to him.

Depth at Cornerback. This was always one of those tricky things for me in that I know there is a buffer of time where bloggers and/or writers are not supposed to write about the sport-aspect of something when there was some other event that was a touchy subject, much like this Amber Battle and Nigel Bethel, II issue.  This is one of those unwritten rules where as a guy that doesn't really have a clue, I'm not sure when it is, but the LAJ is thinking about the depth at cornerback and they list all of the usual subjects, including LaDarius Newbold and Dee Paul at the Field Cornerback spot with Justis Nelson and Theirry Nguema at the Boundary Cornerback position. I'll be honest, I don't understand the pairing of Nguema and Nelson at the boundary spot as they are physically as opposite as you could be in terms of body-type.

Other names to consider will be incoming freshmen Jah'Shawn Johnson, Tevin Madison and maybe even Josh Keys. There's also Tyler Middleton, Brandon Bagley, Martin Hll and Dorian Crawford (they may also be safety types). There certainly isn't a depth problem (the title to the article suggests that Bethel's absence could be a depth issue) and I don't believe that there are a lack of bodies that can compete, we just don't know if they can play.
