Texas Tech Players Gain Weight, Texas Tech Fans Discuss

New, comments

Texas Tech has released the veterans height and weight adjustments and we're going to get to some highlights.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The LAJ got their hands on an early weigh-in for the veterans and I did my best to run down the roster and actually try to look at the weights from last year and compare that to what's been released.  I am sure that I missed some players because I'm human, but I did my best.  If I left someone off, then that means that they probably didn't gain any weight.  Except for the kickers and punters. I left them off on purpose because Travis hates kickers and punters.  Sorry you guys, but he runs this place.  We'll get to some final thoughts at the end.

Generally speaking, the players completely bought in, for the most part, about gaining some weight.  Being bigger across the board and pretty much everyone gained some weight.  Pretty much.

Of the defensive players that appeared to gain, I love the fact that the linebackers are bigger. I think on average, Texas Tech is probably looking at an average of 220 to 225 rather than much less than that. That's a big improvement on my end. Kris Williams gain of 20 pounds makes sense since he was out all of last year and Kahlee Woods gaining 24 pounds is terrific as a middle linebacker. Love seeing the weight gain for those guys.

Some of the defensive backs gained 5 to 7 pounds (or something like that), but some guys like Brandon Bagley and Thierry Nguema gained quite a bit of weight, as they've always been really light players that maybe couldn't get on the field because they barely broke 165.

Rodney Hall lost 9 pounds you guys, meanwhile, Anthony Smith pretty much just said, whatevs, I'll gain 6 more lb's.

Interesting to see that Alfredo lost some weight, almost 12 pounds and now it looks like pretty much most of the guards are right around that 300 pound range, with Clark the heaviest at 315. Anyone else think that we might see some more guards that pull for a more effective running game? I do.

Love seeing some weight gain for Jared Kaster. He always seemed undersized at 275, and just feel better about overall stamina at 285. Poet Thomas loses 27 pounds. High five big man. Other good gains appear to be from Cody Hayes, who gained 31 pounds. Woah.

Love to hear any comments you have.
