Texas Tech Links: The Worst Case Scenario; Three Lady Raiders Leave; Gutierrez to Home Run Derby

The WORST case scenario for the Texas Tech football team, including Kliff Kingsbury losing in round of the first round. Three Lady Raider basketball players have left the team. Eric Gutierrez is headed back to Omaha to participate in a Home Run Challenge.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

This Worst Case is the Worst Case. Quite literally, ESPN threw in the kitchen sink of things that could potentially could go wrong for Texas Tech (and things to go right). It was over-the-top and completely made up for a season that isn't even close to being played and I would rather read these predictions than actually trying to predict the season:

The Red Raiders get pummeled by Texas, which completely steamrolls them on the ground. Meanwhile, the NCAA grants Baker Mayfield an eligibility waiver, and by the time Tech comes up on Oklahoma's schedule, he has taken over as the Sooners' starting quarterback. Against his former team, Mayfield throws seven touchdown passes, and after every score taunts Kingsbury by busting out the "stanky leg."

In the season finale, Baylor puts Tech out of its misery with a 40-point win in Arlington, Texas, sending the Red Raiders back to Lubbock with a 5-7 record and no bowl game.

Mayfield leads Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff. Webb transfers to SMU. Welker gets traded to Jacksonville. Kingsbury goes on "The Bachelorette" and fails to make it past the first episode.

Three Players Leave Lady Raiders. Marina Lizarazu, Diamond Lockhart and Jasmine Caston have all asked for and been granted their release to transfer to any team other than a Big 12 team.

Gutierrez to Home Run Challenge. Eric Gutierrez is headed back to Omaha to compete in the College Home Run Derby that's scheduled for July 3rd at 7:30. Hit them long and deep.

Quality Over Quantity. Pretty interesting thoughts from SB Nation about how fans should be looking at quality over quantity and although I have not really had the chance to compare Texas Tech with the rest of the Big 12, I think the Red Raiders are in pretty good shape in terms of quality.

Miscellaneous. I can't remember if I have already posted this, but Dana Holgorsen and West Virginia named Clint Trickett as the starting quarterback . . . Andrew Wiggins (Cleveland), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia), and Marcus Smart (Boston) were all drafted early last night in the NBA Draft and the Big 12 official site has all of the Big 12 players drafted . . .
