Who Will be Attending the Spring Game this Weekend?

After gathering information throughout the week, we finally have a list of who will be attending the Spring Game. Let's take a look at commits and prospects that will be at the game.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODA

Spring Game is always the biggest recruiting weekend in the Spring, right before coaches can evaluate players after the quiet period. Last year, Texas Tech came into the event with 5 commits already (3 that stayed committed), and Tech got verbal commits from DT QB Patrick Mahomes, IR Ian Sadler and WR Cameron Baston. This year is a little bit different. Texas Tech comes into the event with 4 commits, including the top DT QB in the nation with Jarrett Sitdham, a 4-star JUCO OT in Lio Lafette, a powerful RB in Corey Dauphine and a big OT in Trace Ellison. As for recruits that will be attending the event this year, here is the list:

Breiden Fehoko -Defensive Tackle (Farrington HS, Honolulu, HI)

Height Weight Ratings Crystal Ball Prediction
6'3" 290 lbs 97 by 247 / 5.9 by Rivals / 82 by ESPN OU (27%), USC (27%), TTU (27%), PITT (7%), Stanford (7%)

Breiden Fehoko has actually been in Lubbock.....for a week now. Breiden landed in Texas last weekend and was able to spend the week with his parents and two brothers in Lubbock. He has visited the coaches, has been lifting in the Texas Tech rec center weight room, just taking in the Tech experience with his brother VJ. He also commented that he loved those gray uniforms. Stidham has been talking with Breiden also about Tech, in hopes to get the big time DT aboard. Fehoko will be in attendance at the Spring Game, and will be the highest rated recruit at the event. However, Fehoko said many times he will narrow his list in August and commit around the Under Armor All American game.

Could he commit after game: No

Carlos Strickland - Wide Receiver (Skyline HS, Dallas, TX)

Height Weight Ratings Crystal Ball Prediction
6'5" 195 lbs 90 by 247 / 80 by ESPN / 5.9 by Rivals LSU (50%), CAL (38%), OKST(12%)

Scout put out a teaser saying that Carlos Stickland could visit for the Spring Game, but they put the info behind a paywall so we're not 100% sure if he's going or not (I found out later on that he will visit). We do know that Texas Tech is in the top group for Strickland right now and that we have recruited him the hardest thus far. It's evident that Texas Tech is looking at some sort of tall WR this class, and the 6'5" Carlos Strickland could fit that need. He's likely not to commit until later

Could he commit after game : No

Jaelan Austin - Wide Receiver (South Grand Prairie HS, Grand Prairie, TX)

Height Weight Ratings Crystal Ball Prediction
6'3" 190 lbs 88 by 247 / 75 by ESPN / 5.7 by Rivals Texas Tech (100%)

Jaelan Austin will be returning to Lubbock again for the Spring Game. The last time he was here, he was with teammate Tony Nicholson for Junior Day. Since then, he named Texas Tech the favorite after catches passes from Jarrett Stidham. Iowa and Texas Tech remain at the top of his list. He is also looking for offers from Oregon and USC (sometimes recruits just want offers from different places). There is a chance the tall wide out commit this weekend, but don't count on it.

Could he commit after game: Yes

Zach Abercrumbia - Defensive Tackle (Skyline HS, Dallas, TX)

Height Weight Ratings Crystal Ball Predictions
6'3" 255 lbs 85 by 247 / NR by ESPN / 5.5 by Rivals Texas Tech (100%)

Another Dallas Skyline recruit will be in town this weekend, as Abercrumbia will likely join Carlos Strickland in Lubbock. Tech was one of the first to offer Zach and looks to be recruits him pretty well right now. With the need of DT this class, my bet is that Kliff and Co are probably recruiting Zach pretty well right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Zach ends up pulling the trigger on Texas Tech this weekend.

Could he commit after game: Yes

Ryan Newsome - Wide Receiver (Aledo HS, Aledo, TX)

Height Weight Ratings Crystal Ball Predictions
5'9" 175 lbs 91 by 247 / 77 by ESPN / 5.7 by Rivals UT (69%), BU (10%), TTU (10%), FSU (3%), ORE (3%)

This is another one that isn't confirmed, but there are signs pointing to the fact that Newsome will be here. He canceled his Notre Dame visit this weekend because his parents couldn't make it, and his profile on 247sports stated he will by in town on Friday (I don't know how accurate that is). Also is helps that Jarrett Stidham is attending the game. He recently did an interview with 247sports at NFTC, and he doesn't describe Texas Tech until the end about recruiting him to hardest. It'll be a while before Ryan Newsome commits anywhere.

Could he commit after game: No

Here are some more recruits that will be attending this weekend:

  • Shaquille Richmond - NR 2015 DB from Mansfield Timberview HS in Arlington, TX
  • Spencer Choka - NR 2015 ILB from Rudder HS in Bryan, TX
  • Jaylen Waters - NR 2015 ILB from Copperas Cove HS, Copperas Cove, TX
  • Shemar Smith - NR 2016 RB from Whitehouse HS in Whitehouse, TX
  • Johnathan Permenter - NR 2015 CB from Leander HS in Leader, TX
  • Collin Wilder - NR 2016 S from Katy HS in Katy, TX. Going with some teammates according to Rivals. 4th unofficial visit to Texas Tech (there may be more, but he's taken a lot of visits to Lubbock)
  • Zach Shackelford - NR 2016 OG from Belton HS in Belton, TX. Attending with commit Justin Murphy and recruit Sam Hussey
We will likely know more recruits that attended over the weekend after the Spring Game is over. If you find any info on who will be attending the Spring Game, you can do so in the comments. However, please refrain from posting any info behind a paywall, and a source would much appreciated (story, article or that they tweeted it). See y'all at the Spring Game tomorrow.
