The Lady Raiders (6-16, 0-1) take on the TCU Horned Frogs (13-9, 4-6) today at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, TX at 12:00pm CST (Noon). The teams are on the back-half of the conference schedule so this is the second meeting this season. Tech fell to the Horned Frogs in January 65-54 in a game that started the shooting droughts seen in almost every game since. The Lady Raiders let a 20-point difference build and could not make it up by the final bell. This game will be the 42nd time Tech and TCU have played. Texas Tech dominates the series with a 39-2 record.
The Lady Raiders had another down game on Wednesday night in Austin, TX. The shooting percentage was atrocious at only 28.6%. While the Texas Longhorns shot in the first half a whopping 85% 3-Pt%. The Lady Raiders never gave up and made numerous attempts on the basket but very few fell in the net. While it seemed the Longhorns could have made their shots blind-folded because they seemed to never miss. The final score was 88-51. But if the pattern continues, today's game should be on the up-hill track. I am hoping Tech pulls it all together and plays lights out and gets their first Big12 Conference win this season.
TCU comes into this game in the 6th spot in the current standings in the Big12 after being picked to finish at the bottom of the Big12 by the coach's pre-season poll. They are riding high after an upset win over #23 Iowa State in Ames, IA on Wednesday night. The Horned Frogs pulled out the win over the Cyclones 61-60.
The Horned Frogs' Head Coach, Jeff Mittie is in his 15th season with TCU. His career record is 449-229 and with TCU 298-170. The Mittie has guided the Horned Frogs' program to winning seasons in 13 of his 14 years while taking TCU to 11 consecutive postseason tournaments prior to 2012, including nine NCAA Tournament berths. Since his arrival in Fort Worth, Mittie has compiled a 285-161 (.639) record while exceeding the win total the program accomplished in the first 22 seasons of existence. Mittie's 285 victories account for over 50 percent of the school's wins in 36 seasons of basketball.
