Texas Tech was successful last week in getting recruits interested in the Red Raiders. One visitor commit (Jordan Jackson), another could be close the pulling the trigger (Kaiser Gates) and another has him tweeting Red Raiders (Tyron Johnson). This week, we take a look at two basketball recruits in town, Wendell Mitchell and CJ Williamson.
Basketball Recruits
Wendell Mitchell - Shooting Guard (Rockdale HS, Rockdale, TX)
Height | Weight | Ratings |
6'2" | 180 lbs | 88 (247), 78 (ESPN), 3-star (Rivals), 4-star (Scout) |
Wendall Mitchell will be taking his first official visit this weekend to Texas Tech for the Kansas game. I'm not sure when the Red Raiders offered Mitchell, but the first time I noticed Wendell Mitchell was around May. There hasn't been a lot of news surrounding Mitchell, but he did announce his Top 5 in August with Texas Tech making the list. Other schools are SMU, Auburn, Kansas State and Baylor. While there is no basketball game this weekend, there is a Showtime Basketball event on Friday where the basketball players have dunk contest, 3-point contest and more. Wendell will be able to witness what a basketball environment at Tech is like (hopefully like the one we had last year) and be astonished by the excitement around the program currently. I doubt he would commit this weekend, since he still has four other schools in his Top 5 he's yet to visit, but a good visit could go a long way.
CJ Williamson - Small Forward (Evans HS, Orlando, FL)
Height | Weight | Ratings |
6'6" | 185 lbs | 87 (247), NR (ESPN), 3-star (Rivals), NR (Scout) |
CJ Williamson will take his 2nd official visit this weekend to Lubbock. He was first offered by the Red Raiders in December and the basketball staff has been recruiting him hard ever since. He's listed a PG on some site, but he'll likely play a small forward position in college. CJ Williamson had us in his original Top 6, but since has narrowed his list down to two schools, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech. He will visit the Red Raiders this weekend and then go to visit the Hokies next weekend. He plans to make his college decision on October 27th, so that's a date to watch out for. Williamson will likely pay attention to the atmosphere at the Showtime event, along with the basketball game the following day. He started his official visit yesterday.
