Red Raider Gridiron | Texas Tech Recruiting Tidbits

National Signing Day is right around the corner and we have a handful of links and tidbits about the Texas Tech 2014 recruiting class.

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Spo

Did I use the word "tidbits" in the title of this post and am I okay with that?  Sure.

There's a handful of recruiting things out there.  Small recruiting things that will hopefully entertain you for an entire post.  Let's go. Up first is a good Q&A with Texas Tech commit Jah'shawn Johnson (via WreckEm24/7).  This is also a Big 12 Recruiting Roundup from 24/7 and they say that Johnson is the last remaining target for Texas Tech, which is a bit odd as he is a commit for Texas Tech (via 24/7). Was sorta hoping that this would be someone that wasn't really on anyone's radar, a new name. I do hope Texas Tech can hold onto Johnson.  Here's another general article about the Big 12 is from Sports Illustrated where they break down the needs and recruits of the Big 12 (via SI). If you love slideshows with almost zero content then you'll love this list of the five best commits in Texas Tech's class (via DMN).

Welker Gets Shot at Super Bowl: Former Red Raider Wes Welker gets a shot with Denver for a Super Bowl ring (via FWST).

College Players' Labor Union: OTL was the first with the story, but some players from Northwestern are attempting to join a labor union (via ESPN).  There's some pretty good analysis about this subject at the mothership (via SBNation).  I don't know anything about this part of the law, but I'll say that this seems like it would take a while, if it ever does happen.  I also wonder if this is a state-specific issue, i.e. does each state have their own labor laws and union requirements (they do, I just don't know enough about it to tell you yes, they do and here's the problem).

Break Out Players and Potential Key Contributors: Here are five break out players from this past season (via DMN) and five players who could become key contributors (via DMN).
