The Lady Raiders (6-8, 0-3), in their second road game in Big12 play, go up against the Kansas Jayhawks (7-8, 0-3) today at the Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas at 7:00pm CST. Both of these teams have not won a game in the Big12 play and so there will be a lot of pressure for both of these teams to get the win. This game will be the 22nd meting between Tech and Kansas. The Lady Raiders lead the series 16-5 and have won 14 of the last 16 times.

Texas Tech is coming off a loss against Iowa State in Ames, IA on Wednesday, Jan 8, 2014. The Lady Raiders were limited by the Cyclones Defense to only 16 points in the 1st half. Tech made some adjustments and scored twice as many points in the 2nd half but could not make up the 21 point deficit. On a good note the Lady Raiders played a very defensive game and did not allow the Cyclones to reach their average 80 points per game. The score in the 2nd half was Texas Tech 32 and Iowa State 37.

"Mental Toughness" needs to become the mantra for the Lady Raiders. They need to improve on their discipline on the floor and improve their shot selection and improve their communication and teamwork if there are to win this game and be competitive this season.

The Kansas Jayhawks are a very athletic team that are strong on the boards and are strong 3-point shooters. Their main leader is Junior Forward Chelsea Gardner, who is 60.1% from the field and makes 80% of her free-throws and averages 7.8 rebounds per game and has 26 blocks this season. The team also has Junior Guard Natalie Knight. She is a very strong shooter behind the arc with over 41% of the 3-pt shots counting and Knight is over 80% accurate at the free-throw line. Senior Guard Markisha Hawkns is controlled and accurate on her shots and makes 89% of her FT count. Also an accurate shooter is Keyla Morgan with 59% of her 3-pts and half of her FGs landing. The Jayhawks are fourth in the conference in blocked shots with 4.7 per game and fifth in steals per game with 8.2.

The Jayhwaks' Head Coach, Bonnie Henrickson is in her 10th season with Kansas. Her career record is 325-205 and at Kansas 165-142. During Henrickson's time at Kansas, she has taken the Jayhawks to postseason play in 6 of her 8 seasons. Last year the Jayhawks made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
