Odds and Ends

After a weekend away doing a father-son camp out with Fitsum, and llmost 140 items to read in the feed reader this morning, but I think I've caught a majority of the news. Help me, help you with any links that I missed in the comments.

Totally Texas Tech has some new campus photos and Texas Tech is as pretty as you remember it.

The great Sally Kipyego was named one of the top 50 college athletes of all time by Sports Illustrated!

Congrats to the men's golf team, who placed 5th in the NCAA Columbus Regional and that was enough to qualify to play in the NCAA Championships in Atlanta at the Crabapple Course in a couple of weeks! This is so great. Congrats! The LAJ recaps their work in the regional.

Additional congrats goes to Kim Kaufman who was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team!

Women's Basketball

According to RRS's Chris Level, Oklahoma St. associate head coach Candice Whitaker as the new head coach at Texas Tech sometime today:

Whitaker is from Canyon, played at Seward C.C. before staring at Texas Tech with Marsha Sharp from 1998 through 2000 (I think). You can check out Whitaker's official bio at OSU and Whitaker was also the head coach at UMKC where she didn't have the best record, but by the time she left, she had led them to a 20 win season.

The baseball team took the first two games against Baylor, but lost the third game. By winning that first game on Thursday night and a Texas loss, Texas Tech assured themselves the 8th and final spot in the Big 12 Championship and will play overall #1 seed Kansas St. on Wednesday at 12:30 pm. The LAJ notes how inexperienced the baseball team, but that head coach Tim Tadlock is going into the tournament, this team has nothing to lose.

Men's Basketball

Texas Tech made it official with Chicago PF Alex Foster signing a letter of intent. Congrats and welcome!

Will be in a separate post.
