Tuesday Morning Links at Viva The Matadors | 2013-04-02

Morning links: men's basketball, NCAA things, soccer baseball, golf and football.

ODDS AND ENDS | A little late today, but I think that's okay given the news from last night.

MEN'S BASKETBALL | I'm not going to try to add a lot of content with these links, just list them and let you peruse:

* It's official: Texas Tech hires Tubby Smith as basketball coach | Red Raiders
* Five initial thoughts: Hiring of Tubby Smith won’t re-energize hurting fan base overnight, but coach offers strong track record | College Sports Blog
* Smith to be introduced as next MBB HC - The Daily Toreador: Sports

NCAA STUFF | If you don't know about the Ed O'Bannon case, you should catch up and John Infante looks at what would happen if the NCAA were to lose that case. A case that USC AD Pat Haden thinks is a real possibility.

SOCCER | The soccer team is going to play in some spring games starting on Friday.

BASEBALL | Congrats to 3B Jake Barrios for being named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week! The LAJ thinks that Texas Tech needs to get on a hot-streak if they're going to compete in the Big 12, and I really agree. Have to get those bats going.

GOLF | The women's golf team is in 4th place after two rounds at Onion Creek.

FOOTBALL | Don't forget to put it in your Palm Pilots that the football team will scrimmage in Midland this weekend. There is this article in SI about how coaches around the country are recruiting local players, but this I thought this was a square peg in a round hole sort of article where Kingsbury would like to recruit local players, but Kingsbury's quotes really don't have anything to do with recruiting local players. They are more geared around recruiting Texas Tech in general, which is a different discussion to me.
