In a bit of surprising news, Texas Tech point guard Josh Gray announced via his Twitter that he is going to transfer from Texas Tech:
My family and I decided that I will be transferring. Thanks again for everything can't explain how wonderful the experience was.

I wish Gray luck in his future endeavors. It seemed that Gray was uncertain about the hiring of Tubby Smith as he had made comments on Twitter about wanting Texas Tech to retain former interim head coach Chris Walker. I understand in developing a personal relationship with a coach. There is no harm in that.
Gray started almost the entire season and he averaged 9.3 points, on 36% from the field, 3.2 assists and 3.3 turnovers for the year. I did like how Gray improved as the year progressed, but he was also very prone to having the ball in his hands for long period of time during possessions. You always hate to lose players, especially talented players, but at this point in the process, Smith is going to have to rebuild quite a bit so he'll being doing it from the ground up.
This means that Texas Tech, I think, now has four scholarships available, although it would not surprise me to see Smith only use those scholarships for players that he think will be around for the long term.
