ESPN's Joe Schad is reporting that Texas Tech head football coach is set to make $10.5 million over the next five years, but could also make $13.5 million if he hits all of his bonuses. Of course, this is all according to sources. As the article notes, Kingsbury was originally going to sign a four year deal that averaged about $2 million per year, but now that may have changed.
I'd be completely fine with a five year deal with the same average. I think I've been on the record stating that five year contracts for coaches is pretty standard, so it was more of a surprise to see that Kingsbury had initially agreed to a four year deal rather than a five year deal.
So, what we know is that Kingsbury is set to make a lot of money. Good times.
