Red Raider Gridiron | Texas Tech Commits With Post-Season Accolades & in Playoffs

A handful of Texas Tech commitments are still playing in the playoffs or are receiving some post-season accolades. VTM has the details.

US PRESSWIRE

Links: Good morning. I'm running late today because I didn't have any heat when I got home, so that was fun.  Luckily my father-in-law and brother-in-law are general contractors and they know people.  It's great.

Congrats to WR Cameron Batson for being named the state of Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year (Tulsa World and NewsOK).  In reading about Batson, you should get excited. From the NewsOK article, here's what Batson did on the field:

Batson, who is verbally committed to Texas Tech as a wide receiver, has thrown for 1,946 yards and 27 touchdowns on 101-of-186 passing entering the semifinals. He has rushed for 1,039 yards and 16 touchdowns on 108 carries, while adding nine interceptions on defense.

And off the field, Batson carries a 4.0 GPA, which is just fantastic.  And check out this article about how Batson pretty much won a game for Millwood where he scored two touchdowns and nabbed an interception to lead Millwood to a 14-6 win.

Per 24/7 Sports, QB Patrick Mahomes and OL Robert Castaneda are part of a Blue-Grey All American game, which I don't know a lot about, but it is played at the Death Star.

LB Dakota Allen was named the Defensive MVP for District 19-4A.

Last night, Ennis beat Poteet, 43-21, and Texas Tech commit Jah'Shawn Johnson is on Ennis' team, so good for him. He didn't get one of the three picks last night, but he did have a pick in a playoff game against Lovejoy a couple of weeks ago.  In a bit of a twist, Poteet knocked out Mahomes' Whitehouse team last weekend, 65-60, despite 605 passing yards from Mahomes, where he completed 36 of 61 and threw 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

The FWST handed out "the best of . . . " sort of awards and QB Baker Mayfield made the most memorable debut against SMU.
