THE ANALYSIS

Key Matchup | Turner vs. Carson: Turner is going to have his hands full, much like Josh Gray had his hands full last year, where Carson was really pretty good if my memory serves me correct. Carson is better this year as he’s averaging almost 20 points a game and over 5 assists a game. Turner and back-up Randy Onwuasor are going to have their hands full as Carson is lightning quick and gets the ball to his teammates.

Take Aim: Arizona St. is terrific offensively, but just okay defensively. The Sun Devils have the 32nd best AdjO and the 87th best AdjD. With Texas Tech somewhat limited defensively, this could be really tough on the road for the Red Raiders. Bachynski is a load inside and that’s probably a real good reason why ASU is so good offensively. Bachynski averages almost 13 points a game and over 10 boards. Marshall is a terrific shooter, averaging almost 15 points a game, shooting 50% from the floor and 44% from the three-point line. Gotcher will have his hands full guarding him on the outside.

The LAJ talks with HC Tubby Smith about what type of coach Herb Sendek is for Arizona St.:

"(Sendek’s) very meticulous, very detail oriented and always has been," Smith said. "He’s a smart coach. His teams are very well organized. He’s been able to coach many different styles. He’s more up tempo now and really running and pushing the ball versus when he was at Miami of Ohio or N.C. State. That’s what impresses me about Herb. He’s very cerebral as far as how to execute, coach and get things done with his players. I’ve been impressed that where he’s been and how he’s won."
