I've got an editorial going up soon about the QB Baker Mayfield situation, but if you haven't seen the news, the Express News, via the Statesman, Mayfield said he was transferring from Texas Tech due to a miscommunication with the coaches and Mayfield decided to transfer once he learned that QB Michael Brewer would start the Holiday Bowl:
Mayfield told the Austin American-Statesman that he met with Tech coaches on Tuesday to tell them of his transfer plans, which came shortly after he learned that Brewer would be starting the bowl game.
"I’m disappointed because I love Lubbock," said Mayfield, who will not play in the Holiday Bowl. "I’m thankful for the opportunity they gave me and everything that Lubbock has done for me, but it’s time for me to move on and start over."
Competition is everywhere, nothing is guaranteed in life.
I feel like the Mayfield news somewhat buried the other news yesterday, which is that the All-Big 12 Awards were announced yesterday and TE Jace Amaro was a unanimous selection to the first team All-Big 12 team and DT Kerry Hyder and LT Le'Raven Clark was also named to the second team (official site). In a bit of irony, Mayfield was named the Big 12's Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. WR Eric Ward wasn't named the first or second team and that's wrong.

USA Today All-American: TE Jace Amaro was named a first team All-American by the USA Today. This will be one of many accolades for Amaro, so I expect you to lose track at some point.
Mayfield Transferring Links: Just to get them all in one spot, you can read about Mayfield's transfer at the LAJ and DMN.
Notebook: The LAJ has a notebook, which includes the budget for the Holiday Bowl and the bonuses that Kingsbury is expected to receive due to Texas Tech making a bowl game and hitting attendance records.
DT's Offered: I didn't save the Twitter links, but I did remember the names as I believe that San Mateo DT Trevor Kelly (Hudl) and Highland CC DT Marcus Smith (Hudl) were both offered yesterday as the coaching staff continues to look for some help at the defensive line.
