Soccer Preview 11-05-2013

#12 Texas Tech Soccer closed out its Big 12 season with a 1-0 win over UT. Soph. Janine Beckie scored in the third minute of play to give the Red Raiders the go ahead score and the 15th shut out of the season. GK Sr. Victoria Esson made two saves for the shut out and has only allowed 1 goal in the last 8 matches. The Red Raiders go undefeated in Big 12 play with a record of 6-0-2.

The Red Raiders now enter the post season and Big 12 soccer tournament held at Swope Soccer Viallage in Kansas City as the #2 seed and will face #7 seed TCU at 8 pm on Wednesday November 6. This game can be watched on the Big 12 Digital Network. Texas Tech defeated TCU in the regular season in Lubbock 2-0. The Red Raiders should win this one barring any craziness and advance to round 2 and face the winner of #3 seed UT and #6 seed OSU on Friday November 8 at 8 pm. I would think that UT should handle OSU and that should be the opponent in the semi finals of the Big 12 Tournament. The tournament championship game will be held on November 10 at 330 pm and will be broadcast on FS1. I believe the match will feature Texas Tech vs. WVU in that final match. You may see the Big 12 Soccer Tournament Bracket here. The Big 12 Tournament Champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Soccer Tournament.

The Big 12 awards have been handed out post regular season. The following have made the All Big 12 First Team: GK Sr. Victoria Esson, Defender Jr. Jaelene Hinkle, and Forward So. Janine Beckie. All Big 12 Second Team: Defender Sr. Haley Haagsma and Mid Fielder Jr. Paige Strahan. Big 12 All-Newcomer includes Mid Fielder Fr. Maddy Crabtree and Utility Player Fr. Kansas Bayly. Congrats to each one as they are a deserving class.

As of this morning Texas Tech is still #4 in the College Sports Madness rankings. CSM is touting TTU defense and find the defense spectacular in holding opponents to only six goals. CSM says TTU's defense, as do I, will make TTU one of the toughest opponents in the NCAA Soccer Tournament. CSM has no changes this week in their bracketology. Top Drawer Soccer has Texas Tech at #7. NSCAA poll will not be released until later this afternoon.
