TEAM COMMENT
#1 Kansas On Tuesday KU knocked off #4 Duke 94-83 that made a statement to the college basketball world saying they are the top team to beat in the Big 12. Andrew Wiggins had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and a block in 25 minutes played. Perry Ellis had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in 35 minutes. The Jayhawks will not have a problem with Iona and Towson this week.
#2 Oklahoma State OSU kept slapping teams around and spanked both Utah Valley 93-40 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff 97-63. Against UVU Marcus Smart had 14 points, 9 steals, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block in 25 minutes. In the game against ARPB in 28 minutes Smart had 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. The first challenge of the year for the Cowboys is on Tuesday when they face #13 Memphis in Stillwater for the Old Spice Classic.
#3 Iowa State The Cyclones are for real this year, the game against #7 Michigan last night was a beauty to watch. They took down the top 10 team and looked good doing it winning 77-70. Naz Long made 4 shots from downtown and finished with 16 points, and Melvin Ejim had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist, and 1 block. Earlier in the week they had beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 80-50. This week they go to play BYU.
#4 Baylor The Bears won a hard fought battle they pulled off against South Carolina 66-64. Isaiah Austin had 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 blocks. BU also cruised to victory against Louisiana-Lafayette 87-68. Austin had only 8 points, but did manage to get 8 blocks and 6 rebounds. Their game this week will be another easy victory in Waco when Charleston Southern goes to Baylor.
#5 Oklahoma The Sooners have been looking really nice beating North Texas 95-82 and Idaho 85-65. Buddy Hield had 23 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and a assist in 29 minutes for OU against UNT. Cameron Clark was the scoring leader for the Sooners against Idaho with 14 points. Up next is Seton Hall in the Coaches vs Cancer Classic.
#6 Texas The Longhorns beat South Alabama 84-77 and SFA 72-62 to stay undefeated on the season. Jonathan Holmes had 22 points and 9 rebounds against USA; Demarcus Holland had 21 points and 5 rebounds against SFA. UT will be undefeated again at the end of this week after they play Houston Baptist.
#7 West Virginia West Virginia lost a close one to Virginia Tech 87-82, but did beat Duquesne 96-83. If the Mountaineers could have gotten away with a win against VT it would have really been a step forward for WVU. They had 4 different players score in double figures in the game. Against Duquesne guard Eron Harris hit 6 shots from beyond the arc and finished with a whopping 33 points. This week looks good for WVU as they take on Georgia Southern and Presbyterian.
#8 Texas Tech Our Red Raiders played well in the game against Alabama, but were not strong enough to hang around dropping it 76-64. Robert Turner, Jaye Crockett, and Jordan Tolbert looked good and scored double digits in the loss. The positive thing to take away from the game was we did not get our teeth kicked in to a better SEC team on the road. Earlier in the week we had a nice victory as we thumped Northern Arizona 88-68. Robert Turner and Dusty Hannahs were deadly in the ASU game going for 9-13 from downtown. We will bounce back this week with wins against Texas Southern and South Dakota State.
#9 Kansas State The Wildcats got out of the cellar with 2 wins last week to try and erase the memory of the loss to Northern Colorado. KSU beat Oral Roberts 71-63 and Long Beach State 71-58. Marcus Foster had 25 points with 4 three balls against ORU; and he had 17 points with another 4 long-range balls against LBSU. This week the Wildcats head to Puerto Rico for the PR Tip-Off Tournament to play Charlotte.
#10 TCU Things are really bad for the Horned Frogs right now. They were embarrassed by the Longwood Lancers at their house 82-79. Longwood won only 8 games last season. TCU needs to hope for luck against Abilene Christian and Washington State this week.
