SOCCER

DT's Holden Wilen profiles freshman sensation, Janine Beckie:

"Janine has been consistent in that she is always ready and willing to go goal-to-goal," head coach Tom Stone said. "This has served her and our team well. Her pace is a real threat and her competitiveness is contagious."

SOFTBALL

The softball teams started practice yesterday:

"It's exciting to be back and have such a new group," fourth-year head coach Shanon Hays said. "This fall is big for us because we have 12 new players and we need to see where they fit. We're going to have a lot of competition for positions, and I'm interested to see how our infield pans out. Our work in the fall will make a big impact when we get to next spring."

LAJ's Tommy Magelssen writes about the new recruits coming in.

BASEBALL

The baseball team also opened up practice with new head coach Tim Tadlock. It seems like I don't recognize hardly any names on the roster. LAJ's George Watson and DT's Holden Wilen were both at practice and talked with Tadlock (quote from LAJ):

"I tell you, I’m excited because today marks the first day for us to be able to get the whole team out on the field together as a group," Tadlock said before Monday’s first practice. "We’ve been hard on them the last three weeks (in individual drills) to try and get everybody ready physically and mentally for what we’re going to go through in about a month of practices. We’ve got to find some answers on some things, but at the same time when we recruited these guys we felt they can play."

FOOTBALL

LAJ's Don Williams reports that the knee injury of CB Jeremy Reynolds on Saturday was season ending. Since there isn't a game, this is your updated injury list, although I have taken off OG Tony Morales, WR Marcus Kennard and CB Cornelius Douglas since they should be back from their injuries:

Week 4 Bye: OL Matt Wilson (torn ACL - out for the year); WR Aaron Fisher (broken leg - out for the year); CB Jeremy Reynolds (knee sprain - out for the year); ATH Shawn Corker (broken foot - may be out 1 more week); RB Quinton White (broken foot - may be out 1 to 3 more weeks).

The Texas Tech vs. Iowa St. game will be on Fox College Sports. I have this channel, but this past weekend it put me on North Texas vs. Kansas St. I wonder if there will be a local (DFW) conflict?

Turfburner's Jay Beck has this week's Big 12 power poll and still has Texas Tech, Oklahoma St., TCU and Baylor all essentially lumped together. Until every team has a conference game under their belt, this is probably right. Beck also writes about the improved Texas Tech defense.

LAJ's Don Williams and AAS's Kevin Lyttle write about RB Kenny Williams and here's head coach Tommy Tuberville on Williams:

"He gives us a different look and a different weapon to use," Tuberville said. "I wish we could have redshirted him last year, but it’s given him a lot of confidence going into this year. I was proud of him Saturday, getting his first 100-yard game. It won’t be his last."
