AND ANSWER ON MCROY | LAJ's Don Williams files a notebook and writes that head coach Tommy Tuberville said that RB Ben McRoy may be having some grade issues and is also focusing on track. So there you go. There's also a bit about RB Eric Stephens taking it slow, QB Dustin Walton making an appearance, but that QB Seth Doege and QB Michael Brewer will get a majority of the snaps. And in some disappointing news, DB/WR Shawn Corker broke his foot, announced on the Twitter. Get well soon.
BROWN AND KAUFMAN TALK | Tech Talk with Chris Level and Aaron Dickens talked with OC Neal Brown while 1340 The Fan's Jack Dale talked with DC Art Kaufman. #win
OC Brown talks about needing a third tackle, perhaps LeRaven Clark or Rashad Fortenberry. Level asks Brown about WR Jordan Davis and is high on the walk-on. Talks about taking it slow with Eric Stephens and Alex Torres, but they are talented. Reginald Davis and Dominique Wheeler will play outside, and if they can be factors, then they'll play, if not, then redshirt. Needing some more offensive line commits, maybe JUCO players, but recruiting is always top-of-mind. Will add one more wideout and depending on how the running backs perform, maybe another running back. I can't help but really like Brown.
As far as DC Kaufman, he is concerned about depth issues and finding guys that can play. Need to have a two-deep at each position because a team might play 70 plays. Pretty set on the front four and is counting on Leon Mackey stepping up. Needs the second linebacking unit to step up as well. Needs to have come cornerbacks come on and step up their game. Trying to make the defense adaptable to different offenses. Want to spend time on technique and understanding the scheme. Will focus on studying the opponent in the fall. Want to focus on how to get the job done. Need to stop the run and stop big passing plays. That's the focus. May start a true freshman and there will be a couple of guys that could play. Thinks the team speed is a 2 or 3, with 1 being fast. Talks about playing assignment-football. These are all the right things to say and that's a good thing.
SEASON TICKETS | LAJ's Nick Kosmider reports that the athletic department has sold 30,200 season tickets with a goal of selling 36,000.
TUBERVILLE TALKS | KCBD did it right by organizing all of their Tuberville Talks segments into one place . This morning I've watched Tuberville talk about Western art and he loves Western movies; he loves to turkey hunt: Tuberville's dad lied about his age so that he could join the military and was in WWII, was awarded the Purple Heart and died at age 53, landed in Normandy and drove a tank; and Olympics where we find out he likes badminton, ping pong and track.
