ODDS AND ENDS | Texas Tech holds a garage sale each year before and after the spring game and this year's garage sale starts at 11:00 am on the day of the Red-Black scrimmage and will be open most of the day and also on Sunday. Right now, I'm planning on being there for the spring game, probably driving there early on Saturday morning.

TEXAS TECH SOFTBALL | The softball team swept the double-header yesterday, beating Monmouth 4-2 (official site) and then freshman pitcher Cara Custer pitched her first no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Seton Hall (official site). Congrats Cara!

TEXAS TECH BASEBALL | I've updated the baseball post, but for those of you who want the short story, Texas Tech loses the first game of the series with Baylor, 4-9 (official site). LAJ's George Watson has your recap and additional thoughts on the first game of the season.

TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL | DMN's Mike Graham posts his thoughts of the quarterbacks thus far in the spring and here's a bit:

The Texas Tech offense comes and goes in spurts against the improved Red Raider defense, but when Doege gets going the whole offense seems to take its game to the next level. It starts with a crisp pass into a small window and a fired up receiver. Then Doege will fit the ball into a smaller window and the offense will begin to move its way down the field. As the running game gets going, the running and blocking game also seem to respond.

Brewer just hasn't been able to draw that kind of response yet. It's a good pass here and a good pass there without any real momentum swing.

A major part of the problem could be he seems too comfortable to just tuck the ball and run rather than find the open man when the pocket begins to break down.

I found this a bit amusing, but I guess TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced on Friday that he would be drug testing the team when they get back from spring break on Monday. I guess I really don't understand why he would make the announcement if he really wants to surprise the players (I'd guess that he told them prior to them leaving) or maybe he doesn't want to surprise the players.
