ODDS AND END | So Friday was my birthday and yesterday was the kid's birthday. He's officially two (or at least according to his birth certificate, we really don't know when his birthday is) and we had the party at the house last night. Good times, but I'm a tad bit tired and with the time change, my internal clock is not accurate.
TEXAS TECH FOOTBALL | LAJ's Adam Young updates the story regarding TE Jace Amaro and RB Kenny Williams being arrested. The story details that they were using a 22 year old man's credit card without his "effective consent". We don't know what happened just yet, but would anyone's mind be changed if they were out with another friend, this 22 year old man, and this guy accidentally leaves his credit card at the bar and so Amaro and Williams thought it would be funny to charge drinks with the intent to pay back the 22 year old man. It's not a funny joke, or at least I don't find it funny, but I could see how college kids might get a kick out of it. The story also details how the bartenders at the bar started thinking that things were suspicious when they started to tip $20 after two rounds of drinks. Most college students only tip about $2. The other thing that's a punch in the gut is that they were allegedly trying to use their status on the football team in an attempt to stay out of trouble. I'm glad that didn't work, no one likes it when the, "don't you know who I am" card is played.
I mentioned this yesterday in the comments, I did want to remind everyone of the DeShon Sanders case, which I think happened on 2008 or so and Sanders was arrested, charged and indicted for the intent to distribute cocaine. There was even a DEA investigation and was the roommate of Michael Crabtree. Sanders was never suspended, not even for a minute and Leach always professed that Sanders was innocent. I have never been able to find the details of that case, but the greater point is that being arrested and charged with a crime maybe shouldn't be an automatic expulsion or anything like that. I think that kids make mistakes and I'm willing to listen to what Amaro and Williams have to say before making my decision about them and if they should or should not be on the team. I'd be fine with a three game suspension or something like that too and I also be interested if the 22 year old man decides to press charges.
I said it yesterday in the comments, but I'd bet that Amaro and Williams are having the worst spring breaks ever and that as long as they are on the football team they will be knowing the bleachers intimately well. I'd also bet that their parents have driven up to Lubbock, sat in front of them, put their heads in their hands and asked each of them why they did this as this is not the type of human beings that they raised.
