Lady Red Raiders for the Week of Sept 26th to Oct 2nd

Soccer Team:

Tech Soccer is on the road this week with games against Baylor and Oklahoma.

Tech Soccer plays Baylor on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at 7pm CST at Betty Lou May Fields in Waco, TX. They then travel to Norman, OK to play OU on Sunday, Oct 2, 2011 at 1pm CST at John Crain Field.

On a side note:  Those of you who will be attending the Tech v A&M football game, can get in free to the Tech Soccer game on Friday, Oct 7, 2011.  The ladies will also be playing A&M and that game will be a "Blackout" too.

Current record:

Tech's current Conference record is 1-0-0 with an overall play of 7-3-1. 

Baylor's current record is 1-1-0 in Conference and an overall record of 9-2-1.

Oklahoma's Conference record is 0-0. OU stands at 5-6 overall. 

Previously Play:

Tech is coming off a wins over Missouri and Northern Arizona. 

Baylor is coming off wins at Texas and against Weber State.

Oklahoma is coming off losses to LSU and New Mexico. Also, OU plays #2 Oklahoma State in the Soccer Bedlam game on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.

Coaches: 

Tom Stone is coaching his 5^th season at Tech. (41-37-7).

Marci Jobson is entering her 4^th season with Baylor (24-23-10).

Nicole Nelson is also starting her 4^th year. Her record at OU is 22-33-6

Last year:

The Lady Red Raiders finished the 2010 season 11-8-1. Finishing 7^th in the Big12.  Tech has 11 Starters returning and 9 newcomers.

The Lady Baylor Bears finished the 2010 season 11-7-2. Finishing 9^th in the Big 12.  They have 8 Starters returning and 8 new members on the team.

The Lady Sooners finished the 2010 season 12-8-3. They were tied for 3^rd in the final Big 12 standings.  They have 8 Starters returning and 4 new members on the team..

Tech lost to Baylor last year 0-1 but beat OU 3-1.

Already posted earlier in the week, both the Offensive and Defensive Big12 Soccer Players of the Week were from the Tech Soccer team.  Jessica Fuston was named Offensive Player while Victoria Esson was named Defensive Player of the Week. This was the 3^rd time this season Esson was named the Player of the Week.

Also this week, Taylor Lytle and Jessica Fuston were listed as #5 and #13 in "Top Drawer Soccer's" Top 20 List of players in the Big 12 Conference.

Volleyball Team:

Tech Volleyball plays #25 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at 6:05pm CST at the USA.

The game will be the 2^nd Annual "Dig for the Cure" so wear your pink and go to the game for a dollar.

This is Tech's 2^nd Conference game and the third conference game for the Sooners.

Record: Tech is coming off a loss to #16 Iowa State and a win against New Mexico. Tech's current record is 14-2. Oklahoma comes into Lubbock with wins against Baylor and #8 Texas. OU's current record is 15-3.

Coaches: This is Don Flor's first season coaching the Lady Red Raiders.  The Sooner's coach, Santiago Restrepo, is starting his 8^th season. His current record at OU is 137-97.

Competition:  The ranked Sooners will be Tech's biggest test this season. Tech lost both matches to OU last season.

Notes: Video on Senior Amanda Dowdy, who is currently ranked 3^rd in Points in the Big 12 standings with 4.60 Average per Set.  She is also ranked 47^th in the country in "Kills per Set".
