Texas Tech Announces Date for 2011 Red Raider Club Football Kick-Off Luncheon - SportsRadio 1340 The Fan
I didn't see this on the official site, but wanted everyone to mark your calendars for August 18th.
Utah's Holy War edge over BYU; Oregon scandal; more Mailbag - Stewart Mandel - SI.com
Mandel's latest mailbag had a question about a Texas Tech fan not moving on from Leach and asks Mandel's opinion as to whether or not Tuberville will be able to make Texas Tech a "player" in the Big 12. I'll let you go read Mandel's response, but generally, I think that Mandel is correct in that it's always been UT and OU's conference to win and teams like Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma St. and Texas Tech will poke through in a given year to challenge the big two:
I'm not sure I'd peg the Red Raiders to go much above last season's eight wins, but lest we forget, Leach won eight or nine games in seven of his last eight seasons in Lubbock. That one 11-win breakthrough in 2008 was an exception, not the norm. Tech is never going to compete on a year-in, year-out basis with Oklahoma and Texas, but it can certainly stay on par with Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Missouri and occasionally rise up and challenge the Big Two.

Texas Tech Adds Matt Eureste to 2011-2012 Recruiting Class - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
Interesting. Head coach Dan Spencer added SS Tim Proudfoot last week and now he's added another shortstop, Matt Eureste, a 40th round pick of the Cleveland Indians, who was originally committed to Sam Houston St.:
Jeff Ellis: Matt Eureste is shortstop from the Texas prep ranks. He is committed to attend Sam Houston State. He hit .415 this year for St. Pius X and was a first team all state selection this past season. He is an excellent athlete who was also an all state defensive back. His team was a state contender for the Division One title in Texas, where you have to have a top level athlete playing defense back. The Indians again get an athlete and an up the middle player. He has plus speed, and good footwork. These skills also helped make him an all state defensive back. A very interesting athlete drafted this late for the Tribe, and a player who could end up being a steal this late just based on his athletic abilities.
It's all about having some options.
