Final Roster

Texas Tech has released the final roster for the 2011 season.  I think all of the freshmen that were going to check in have checked in and this is your 2011 roster.  I've got the entire roster after the jump and some thoughts on the roster, including who is here, who isn't here, etc.

Missing in Action

There are a handful of players that didn't return.  Right now, I don't really have any answers or explanations as to why, but here's the players that I didn't see listed on the final roster that were part of the 2011 signing class or on the 2010 roster:

DL Coby Coleman
CB Thierry Nguema
DT Michael Odiari
DL Lawrence Rumph
ATH Otis Wright
DE Desimon Green,

I've heard that Nguema is going to greyshirt, so we'll see about that.  Also, Green is apparently headed to Hargrave Academy.  I wish Texas Tech had a coach on their staff with a connection to Hargrave.  I think that Wright was supposedly going to have issues qualifying.  I don't have any answers as to why Carmical, Coleman or Rumph are no longer on the roster.  I have no idea if the feeling was mutual.  The ones that hurt the most for me are Carmical and Coleman, who both redshirted last year.  Carmical was switched from linebacker to defensive end this year, so maybe he didn't think that he fit in this defense any longer.  Coleman is one that I'm really going to miss.  An athletic defensive tackle that I thought could have been a solid part of the rotation in years to come, but he apparently had issues qualifying.  The loss of Rumph causes some problems from a depth standpoint, but I think Texas Tech is fine at the defensive line position.  Odiari was a preferred walk-on and I've heard that Nguema may be gray-shirting, which is why he's not on the roster, but will be next year.

Freshmen

There are twenty five freshmen listed here, one of those freshmen being Javares McRoy.  There are a couple of clarifications.  Player "Pete" Roberton has to be LaDarrin Robertson.  I think the only preferred walk-on is Killough, who was Amaro's quarterback in high school, appears to be the only preferred walk-on on the roster. We talked about Killough in May and it appears that he's on the team as an athlete rather than a quarterback.  His Scout profile said that he's fast and maybe he develops into an inside receiver at some point during his career.

JUCO's and Transfers

We've known about Osunde, Mackey and Wesley as the JUCO's in the 2011 class.  I don't know anything about Yeakey, except that he did play for Redlands University last year.  Here's some YouTube video of Yeakey in high school.  I've listed both Osbourne and Gilliam on this list, but they were actually here during the spring.  I couldn't find anything about Gilliam and only found Osbourne's N. Dakota St. profile.  When we found out that Bustin was going to transfer to Texas Tech, it made the top of the list of news back in May.  You can watch some YouTube video of Bustin.  When Williams transferred we all knew that he'd have to sit out this year and he'll only have one year to play, but he was incredibly productive for West Texas A&M.  You can see some YouTube video of Williams against Tarleton State from 2009.  I also couldn't find anything about Jordan Osbourne, so help us all out with any information or links if you have them. 

The 2011 Roster

Last, but certainly not least.  I always like viewing the roster by position group and so I've sorted the roster by position rather than by number or by name.  This is always a good time for you all to let everyone else know if a player has gained or lost weight, and anything that you notice about the incoming players.
