DTN Daily Diatribe | Texas Tech News, Notes and Links | 2011-06-27

I was going to ask you all to summarize the week that was, but RP.com's Travis Cram already did that.  I mentioned yesterday that it's good to be back, although I'm still tired as the whole time change is tough and I'm sure that today will be an awesome day at work.  I've worked on a couple of recruiting profiles and C Jared Kaster's profile will be up later today.

FOOTBALL
Boys Athlete of the Year: Jace Amaro, MacArthur - San Antonio Express-News
Quite an honor for Amaro.  I should also add that Amaro has more manly chest-hair than I do, but I'm not the #3 prep tight end in the nation.

Big 12 has plenty of defensive minds | The Columbia Daily Tribune - Columbia, Missouri
Nice to see that Matter thinks that Glasgow is one of the top 10 defensive minds, despite having not coordinated full-time or coached in the Big 12:

10. Chad Glasgow, Texas Tech safeties: The only newcomer on the list, Glasgow is Tech’s new coordinator after spending 10 seasons at defensive powerhouse TCU. With Glasgow coaching the safeties in Fort Worth, the Horned Frogs led the nation in total defense five times since 2000 and each of the last three seasons. He coached 14 all-conference safeties, including 2010 consensus All-American Tejay Johnson. In Lubbock, Glasgow has installed TCU’s patented 4-2-5 defense.

Abilene Cooper and current Texas Tech commit, QB Clayton Nicholas, helped his team advance to the 7-on-7 state tournament in College Station.  The first link has some video of Nicholas.

Recruiting: Several hot in June
24/7 Sports discusses Texas Tech's incredibly hot recruiting streak, all while I was gone, and has this bit:

All told, Texas Tech has 15 commitments in the 2012 class and trails only Texas and Texas A&M in the Big 12’s early class 2013 rankings. The Red Raiders have one top 100 prospect committed in Wheeler, the No. 119 prospect in Starts, a third four-star in athlete Reginald Davis (Tenaha, Texas), and five prospects rated 87 to 89.

If I remember correctly, last year's starter Kelby Tomlinson has moved on as has the his possible replacement, which forced Texas Tech to sign another infielder.
