3.  Hansen, Sheffield added to roster - SportsLink - Spokesman.com - May 18, 2011
Former Texas Tech QB Steven Sheffield is signed!  Congrats Steven!

4.  Oklahoma State's early season success fading amid slump | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
LAJ's George Watson previews the Oklahoma St. series and notes that the Cowboys are struggling a bit of late.  I can't remember all of the scenarios, but Texas Tech needs at least one win.

5.  Gillispie, Hocutt kick off statewide meet-and-greet in Lubbock | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and Gillispie happy with Beard's role as assistant coach, liaison | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
Lots of things going on here.  Good to see Gillispie going out with Hocutt to meet Red Raiders across the state.  I think this is a good thing.  The second link also notes that no other assistant has been hired, which means that the Villanova assistant (Chris Walker?) that was supposed to be arriving at Texas Tech as an assistant hasn't been hired officially and may not ever be hired.  Interesting.  Also of note, SF Merv Lindsay has decommitted from Texas Tech and he had until yesterday to sign an LOI.  I'm okay with this as there are a lot of options at small forward.

6.  Jared Lorenzen Dominates Indoor Football - Big East Coast Bias
Are you 6-3/350 and wished that you could play football on a professional level.  Former the former Kentucky QB is living the dream and yes, there's YouTubery.

7.  Chronicles of a Race Foretold: Two Days at the UIL State Track Finals | Barking Carnival
Good stuff from BC on a couple of Texas Tech signees, OL LaRaven Clark and TE Jace Amaro, written from the UT perspective, but based on observations at the Texas state track meet.  Here's a bit on Amaro:

So there is Amaro, who has fouled on his previous two efforts with one last chance to win. Kid goes balls out and comes up just short at 61′ 10" and he was not happy about the results. After watching three years of offensive linemen turning around to see their quarterback on the ground and not doing anything more than helping him up I really did like the idea of an athlete who just finished second at state who truly felt he could have done better. Not saying he was a poor sport, anything but, you could just see on his face he knew he could have done more. Tech got a good one.

8.   Linebacker Play: Alignment & Gap Assignments - Shakin The Southland and Linebacker Play: Reading OL Blocks - Shakin The Southland
Great stuff from Shakin The Southland.  Must read.

9.  Max Ivany's D1 Nation -Houston: San Antonio Churchill's Clark Lammert To Texas Tech and Twitter / @TexasHoops/GASO: TX Tech coach Billy Gillis ...
Texas Tech head coach Billy Gillispie snagged three walk-ons yesterday:  San Antonio Churchill SF Clark Lammert (Rivals profile and video); Big Spring PG Luke Adams (Rivals profile and video); and Skyline PG Pierre Hayden (Rivals profile and video).  I probably got the biggest kick out of Adams video and Adams may be the best of the three as he was the 5-3A District MVP this year and he's the son of Howard head coach Mark Adams and he's deaf and he averaged 26.9 PPG (you really should check out this article).

Five more things after the jump!

10.  On April 27 the most devastating tornado - 05.23.11 - SI Vault
It's amazing as to the number of tragedies happening around the country.  From the drought in West Texas that has received little to no national attention, to the tornado that swept across Tuscaloosa to the cresting Mississippi River.  As to this article, the first portion is about the long-snapper that lost his girlfriend in the tornado.  Sometimes there's too much tragedy.

11.   Story of the Tokelau Teenagers Lost in the Ocean for 51 Days: Newsmakers: GQ (via Kottke)
These stories are always so tough to read, but I find them fascinating.

12.  If Justice Dept. wants answers about the BCS, NCAA prez suggests it ask the BCS - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Excellent summary from Hinton.  Always a good summary of the situation.

13.  In-N-Out vs. Five Guys vs. Shake Shack: The First Bi-Coastal Side-By-Side Taste Test | A Hamburger Today
I've always heard that Shake Shack is an awesome burger, but had previously only been in NYC, but has opened a storefront in D.C.

14.  Twitter / @Texas Tech Athletics: Estacado standout Kevin Wagner inks his commitment to Red Raider basketball today
Congrats to Kevin and his family!  It's not easy earning a scholarship.

15.  The Sporting Scene: Nails Never Fails : The New Yorker
If you've never followed former Philly Lenny Dykstra, you're missing out on some gold.  He's recently been indicted for bankruptcy fraud and he's totally wheels off.
