Texas Tech News, Notes and Links | 14 Things

Had an awful time with my internets connection this morning.  Part II of the 4-2-5 series will be posted later this morning.

1.  Texas Tech Selected to Second-Straight NCAA Regional - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
The Lady Raiders start play on Friday against New Mexico State in Tuscon.  Good luck!

2.  Men's Golf Begins National Title Quest In Tucson - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
Another good luck to the men's golf team!

3.  Bledsoe, James Named to All-Big 12 Second Team - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
Congrats to Emily Bledsoe and Sandy James for being named to the All-Big 12 second team!

4.  Five Red Raiders Named to Academic All-Big 12 Teams - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
Five members of the men's baseball team named to the Academic All-Big 12 team:

Texas Tech junior third baseman Reid Redman (Midland, Texas), redshirt junior Zach Fowler (Texarkana, Texas) and redshirt sophomore Nick Hanslik (Wolfforth, Texas) were named to the first team while sophomore Barrett Barnes (Sugarland, Texas) and junior Brennan Stewart (Round Rock, Texas) received second team honors.

5.  KMIL 105.1 FM News Room
High school linebacker prospect from Rockdale, Derek David, continues to get in trouble.  I'm not certain about this because coaches cannot comment on high school players until committed, but the story is out there that David dropped Texas Tech, but I think it was the other way around.  Just my opinion.

For those of you interested in this sort of thing.

Good stuff from Year2.

9.  The Wiz of Odds: The Bowls: Silly Extravagance or Worthwhile Tradition? and The Wiz of Odds: Bowl Expense Reports: The Story Behind the Story
I haven't had time to look at this so someone let the class know if Texas Tech is mentioned in any way.

10.  Kevin Wagner to reaffirm commitment to Texas Tech | Lubbock Online | Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
I'm glad that Wagner will reaffirm his commitment.  I think he's going to grow a bit and if he maintains his leaping ability, this could be a special player.

11.  Ken Cross column: Ten college coaching changes that could have immediate effects : Lindys Sports
So many people think that Gillispie will have a positive impact next year:

2.) Billy Gillispie to Texas Tech— Pat Knight never could get it going in Lubbock and was fired as Gillispie gets a well-deserved second chance after a tumultuous two-year period at Kentucky. Gillispie is an excellent coach and recruiter and for a spot as out of the way as Lubbock, his selling skills will be needed. The Red Raiders may be in better shape that Texas A&M was when he left there, so a quicker than expected turnaround is possible. "Billy Clyde" is an excellent program builder and the job description at Texas Tech calls for that where it was an altogether different set of requirements in Lexington.

12.  Texas Legislature Putting Runners On The Run | Barking Carnival
Interesting that legislation is being introduced.

13.  NBA Draft Lottery Photos: Nick Gilbert Wins Cleveland Cavaliers Dibs On Kyrie Irving - From Our Editors - SBNation.com and Post-lottery NBA mock draft - NBA - Yahoo! Sports
Some post-NBA draft lottery stuff.  And although I know that everyone is not a NBA fan, watching Nowitzki and Durant last night was a thing of beauty. And the photo in this post is the big winner of the lottery, Nick Gilbert.

14.  OMG LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS FREAKING SNAKE!
This is exactly what the title of the link sounds like, which is that someone snapped a picture of a King Brown snake in Australia.  It's a really big snake, otherwise, I wouldn't waste your time.
