Texas Tech News, Notes and Links | 7 Things

You can go ahead and consider this your open thread for the final day of the NFL Draft.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to be busy for a good part of the day, but let's hope some Texas Tech players fulfill their dreams today.

1.  Barnes' Walk-Off Single Gives Tech 3-2 Win Over Kansas - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE and Barnes' 10th-inning single lifts Red Raiders past Jayhawks 3-2 | Red Raiders | What a tremendous win for this team.  1B Stephen Hagen hits a home run in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and send it to extra innings and CB Barrett Barnes hits a single for the win in the 10th.  RP John Neely gets his 9th win of the year.  Very happy for them and hope that they can get two more this weekend.  Wreck 'Em!

2.  Texas Tech Makes Final Trip to Nebraska This Weekend - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE | The Lady Raider Softball team needs some conference wins too and Nebraska is ranked in the top 25.

3.  Joe Parker Named Deputy Athletics Director At Texas Tech - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE and Hocutt hires Michigan’s Parker as second in command | Red Raiders | I think this is a good hire, but it's hard to tell.  Parker was a former athlete, a swimmer at Michigan, received his graduate degree from UT, moved to Washington St., then to Oklahoma (there's your Hocutt connection) and then back to Michigan where he was prior to be hired at Texas Tech.  Parker is very much involved at Michigan in raising funds for capital improvements and in charge of implementing those capital improvements.

4.  Tech Wins Shuttle Hurdle Relay Title - TEXAS TECH OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE | Congrats to the track team!

5.  Scout.com: Midlands: Commitments and Offers | Texas Tech received a commitment from Haltom City OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai.  Do not ask me to spell this last name for at least a year.   I will be working on his DTN profile and I know that I also need to publish the profile on LB Eric Hallmon.  Yes, I'm very much behind.

6.  Injury ends Lady Raider Kimbro’s career | Red Raiders | We wish you well Lindie!

7.  Star Power: How recruiting rankings hold up at the top of the NFL Draft - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF Blog - Yahoo! Sports | Recruiting rankings don't always mean everything, but sometimes they mean something.
