Tech VB plays UT today in Lubbock

Tech Volleyball plays #8 UT on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 at 6:30pm CST at the USA in Lubbock, TX.  This will be Tech's 12^th Conference game and the 11^th for UT.

Tech lost to the Longhorns 0-3 on Oct 12^th in Austin, TX.  These two teams have met 82 times with the Lady Longhorns leading the series 71-9-2. The Red Raiders are looking to break a 21-match losing streak to the Longhorns. Tech has not defeated Texas since sweeping the series in 2000. Tech is only 2-31 when playing the Longhorns in Lubbock.

Current Record:  Tech's  (15-11,1-10).  UT ‘s current record is 16-4,9-1.

Keys to the Match: Tech has to come out strong in the first set. The Red Raiders have found success this season when opening the match with a first-set victory as Tech is 14-2 when doing so. Where Tech has struggled is overcoming an early deficit as the Red Raiders are only 1-9 when dropping the opening set.

Coaches:  This is Don Flora's first season coaching the Lady Red Raiders.  The UT coach, Jerritt Elliott, is in his 11th season with the Longhorns.  His current record at UT is 257-74.

Competition:  This will be the 83^rd meeting between the Lady Red Raiders and the Texas  Longhorns.

Amanda Dowdy enters Wednesday's match needing just 42 swings to reach 4,000 attempts over her career. She will be only the 2nd player in school history to do so, joining Kelly Johnson who set the school record with 5,142 swings from 2001-04.

The Red Raiders have held their opponents to a combined .130 hitting percentage so far this season, which is the lowest in the Big 12.
