Recruiting on the High Plains | CB Junior Osunde

Recruiting_on_the_high_plains__2__medium

So we're up to #26?  I think that's right as Texas Tech secured it's 26th commitment from Kilgore Junior College CB Junior Osunde.  I fully admit that I'm not real confident about junior college defensive backs.  I know it's unfair to assume that Osunde is like these other players, but the last two defensive backs from a junior college were Jarell Routt in 2008 and DeShon Sanders in 2007.  You're probably asking who the hell are those two guys and you would be right.  Routt never made much, if any impact, and Sanders was the one that was arrested by the DEA for distribution of cocaine, but I don't believe that this charge stuck.

So I'm a tad bit leery about this and I hope you don't mind me being a little pessimistic.  I hope that Osunde is different than Routt and Sander.  We'll see.

The Player Speaks:  Nothing yet, but there might be something out there later today.  Interestingly, Osunde committed to Minnesota early int he process and this morning, I run across a Minnesota message board, Gopher Hole, that discusses Osunde's de-commitment.  Also in that thread are apparently Facebook posts from Osunde that mentions this:  "This judge and the court system just took everything from me all because my past. Hurting".  I have no idea what to think about this.  I've gone through 20 pages of Google search and come up empty as far as what Osunde is talking about.

This is me not getting to excited or too down.  Junior college commits are a gamble.  I'm hoping that with new defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow supposedly recruiting heavily in East Texas he's seen Osunde in action and approves.  I can't imagine that he wouldn't be on board and truthfully, Osunde does provide a bit of depth at a position that doesn't have much proven and/or veteran cornerback depth.

Video:  There are a few video clips for you to check-out.

Scouting Report:  I guess a couple of things stand out as far as Osunde are concerned.  He's pretty good in run support and doesn't mind stepping up and making a tackle.  That's good.  The few times that you get to see Osunde lined up, he's 10 to 15 yards off the receiver, but he does make a nice jump on a lot of the highlights, which isn't a surprise.  I'm not surprised because they're highlights.

So Osunde is obviously being asked to play that far off the receiver, but why would a coach have a cornerback who has 4.40 speed not get the cornerback a little closer to the reciever.  I can't answer that.

Junior, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
