How about that, the Red Raiders received a fairly significant commitment on a weekend where the game didn't go as planned. Klein Oak's defensive tackle Jon Lewis committed to Texas Tech on Sunday and let's see what we can find about Texas Tech's 20th commitment.

The fake 40-yard dash time is from Dave Campbell's Texas Football. I could see Lewis being faster, but this is probably pretty accurate..
More after the jump.
The Player Speaks: LAJ's Don Williams didn't talk with Lewis, but he did talk with Lewis' head coach, Klein Oak's David Smith, who had this to say about Smith:
"It doesn’t matter what I think of him," Smith said. "I love him to death, but (Alabama coach) Nick Saban called last spring on a Friday afternoon, and said, ‘Coach, we want to offer him a scholarship right now.’ Nick Saban at this moment still has that offer on the table, along with multiple others."
And if you want to know who gets credit for this commitment, look no further than Tommy Mainord:
"I’m going to give that bulldog credit," Smith said of Mainord. "He got on it and stayed on it. He got after Jon Lewis when he got the job there at Tech, and he did not back off."
And here's what Smith has to say about Lewis' game:
"He has good instincts," Smith said. "He’s got great hands. Has good leverage. What they call get-off, he can really come off the ball. He has a burst to get off a block. His first two steps, he is a slingshot. He is moving. He can go swallow up a running back if that running back’s not really taking off. And at the point of impact, he’s really explosive."
Video: The only video I could find was on his ESPN profile. [Note by Seth C, 09/25/10 6:58 AM CDT ] UPDATE: Thanks to TallMike, we now have video:
John Lewis Highlights (via 247SportsStudio)
Scouting Report: The interesting thing about Lewis is that he gets down the line of scrimmage in his film on a handful of occasions. That means that he's able to shed his block and then move laterally down the field to make a play. Lewis appears to have good size and he could certainly add some more weight. He's playing a defensive end / defensive tackle position at Klein Oak. And he's got athletic ability, but he still very raw in terms of technique. The technique stuff can be taught.
Lewis appears to be a highly thought of player. Inside Texas has him ranked as the 32nd best player in the state, while Rivals.com has him ranked as the 87th best player in the state. The above linked Dave Campbell's article had Lewis as one of the "Best of the Rest" of the state's defensive tackles. The discrepancy is a little interesting and Klein Oak has collegiate talent on their squad (see DE Nathan Hughes and TE Max Stevenson) so it's not as if he's the only guy on the team that colleges are scouting.
Jon, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!
The 2011 Class: There have been quite a few updates since we last checked in on this list, including updates on Terrell Hartsfield and Justin Rogers. Still can't figure out why Rivals can't go check out Castleman, but he'll be a tremendous prospect whether or not they can figure out how to book a flight to Amarillo.
