Recruiting on the High Plains :: DE Kindred Evans

Evans is the 13th commitment for Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville.  DB Freddie Warner is the 14th commitment and his DTN profile is next.

The Player Speaks:  Again, nothing in the news about Evans.  The only thing I could find was that he did play basketball this year, but he only played in 6 games, averaging about 6 points a game.  Evans was a player to watch way back in March of 2009 at the National Underclassmen Combine.  That would have been as a sophomore, but more recently, Dave Campbell's has Evans as one of the Top 25 defensive linemen in the 2011 class

Video:  The only video I could find is the video on his ESPN profile

Scouting Report:  If I take anything away from the video, it's that he's got a nice first step, isn't afraid to put his helmet in the middle of a scrum and doesn't give up on plays, but he's awfully skinny. Evans looks like the sort of player that his high school coaching staff have told him to just go out and push up the field as quickly as possible. Evans is going to have to develop quite a bit, but if he's truly 6'6" then more than likely he has the frame to do so. I'd imagine that the coaching staff probably feels like Evans will hopefully become the stand-up pass-rusher or outside linebacker in Tuberville's 3-4 scheme. With Evans, it's going to take some time so I'm guessing that you'll hear little of Evans for the first couple of years of his time on campus, unless of course, he's able to add weight and strength relatively easily, then he could be the sort of player that just jumps on the scene.  I found Evans 40-time and thought that 4.9 was pretty darned fast for a defensive end.  It will be interesting to see if Evans can retain that speed while still adding weight and strength.

Kindred, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!

The 2011 Class:  Freddie Warner . . . you're next.
