The Game: The headline for the game is that the Aggies scored all 5 runs with 2 outs. Dang it. First things first, I'm not ready to give up on Spencer just yet. Last year was his first year as the head coach, his second in the program (I think). He has a great pedigree and there's a ton of young players on this team. In my opinion, a coach should have a longer leash than one year and I think that Hays, as good as he was for Texas Tech, left the program in a bit of a mess, especially from a pitching standpoint. Back to the game, Bobby Doran gave the team a good starting effort (5.0 IP; 8 H; 4 ER; 2 BB; 6 SO) and Jay Johnson, despite his struggles early in the season, pitched well considering al things (2.2 IP; 5 H; 1 ER; 1 BB; 3 SO), but I think this is a situation again, where the offense struggled to get much of anything going. Only 5 hits for the game, including a homerun by C Kevin Whitehead (1-3; 1 HR; 2 RBI) that scored two of the team's 4 runs. Freshman 2B Jamodrick McGruder (1-4; 1 RBI) and LF Michael Reed (1-4; 1 RBI) got home the team's other two runs.
Game Recap: LAJ's George Watson writes about how head coach Dan Spencer needs for his guys to keep scrapping and the middle of the lineup to produce offensively:
"We need to find some guys who will step up in the middle of our order and get us a big knock," Spencer said. "We get one big knock in the middle of our lineup and other guys will follow and get us going. I was proud of how hard we played.
"We’re scuffling. We’re trying to get over the hump and we’re trying to get over the hump on the road against a good club. I like the way we compete. I like the way we get after it. We’re close, but we’ve got to get over the hump."
