The Game: You've got to feel bad for RF Jamodrick McGruder, a true freshman, who was picked off on 3rd base in the bottom of the 9th inning, and represented the tying run. Poor kid. Hopefully there's a life lesson in all of this and McGruder can learn from this. And that's not to say that McGruder just screwed up as did a little at the plate as well (2-3; 3 R), leading the team in hits and runs scored. DH Scott JeJeune drove in 3 runs (1-4; 1 HR; 3 RBI). Starting Pitcher Brett Bruening only lasted 2 innings (2.0 IP; 3 H; 6 R; 3 ER; 3 BB; 2 SO), but he only gave up 3 earned runs. Colt Farrar was more effective (2.2 IP; 2 H; 1 R; 0 ER; 2 BB; 2 SO) as was the rest of the bullpen, consisting of Ben Flora, Brennan Stewart and Jay Johnson. Chad Bettis wasn't used today, which means that he's still eligible to be Sunday's starter.

Recaps: LAJ's George Watson has the recap:

Tech freshman Jamodrick McGruder tripled in the ninth inning, but got picked off third base for the final out as No. 7 TCU beat Tech 8-7 after the Red Raiders had rallied from a five-run deficit.

In the seventh inning, McGruder tripled and scored on a Joey Kenworthy sacrifice fly, which proved to be the game’s final run. His triple to the center-field wall in the ninth gave the Red Raiders a chance to tie. Instead, TCU catcher Bryan Holaday caught McGruder too far off the bag.

Tech (8-7) and TCU (10-2) play again at 2 p.m. today. The Horned Frogs are scheduled to pitch freshman lefthander Matt Purke, the Texas Rangers’ unsigned first-round draft choice from last June, against Bobby Doran.
