Recruiting on the High Plains | WR Marcus Kennard

After some commitments and then some de-commitments, Texas Tech received it's 20th commitment in WR Marcus Kennard.  As mentioned by others, this was a big recruiting weekend as the staff had about 10 recruits visiting.  Kennard was apparently down to Texas Tech and Texas A&M and the possibility of immediate playing time was the deciding factor.  Kennard will enroll in January, which means that I think he'll actually count against last year's recruiting numbers.

The Measurables:

Marcus Kennard
Position: WR

Ht: 6'4"
Wt: 205 lbs
Forty: 4.50
JUCO: Butler County C.C.

It's always a bit strange to see a player ranked so highly by one service, but not ranked at all by another service.

More after the jump.

The Player Speaks:  LAJ's Don Williams spoke with Kennard after his commitment and he does not lack for confidence:

The wide receiver from Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., made an oral commitment Sunday to Tech coaches. Kennard said he was measured at 6-foot-4 and weighed in at 202 pounds on his campus visit this weekend.

Kennard said his height, speed, 38-inch vertical jump and hands are all pluses.

"I can outjump any player out there," he said. "I’m hungry for the ball. If the ball’s in the air, I’m guaranteed going to catch it."

Kennard also has family from Lubbock and this factored into his decision in committing to Texas Tech.  Kennard also had to decide between a weekend visit with Texas Tech and Arkansas and chose to visit Texas Tech.

Video:  Nothing for free.

Scouting Report:  Without video, it's always tough to determine.  Kennard had 43 catches for 876 yards and 13 touchdowns, which is 20.37 yards per catch and averages a touchdown for every 3.03 reception.  Rivals.com ranked Kennard the #20 JUCO prospect overall and was also the #2 JUCO receiver prospect.

Marcus, welcome to Texas Tech and Git Your Guns Up!

The 2011 Class: This is where you can find the 2011 recruiting page.  Depending on who you believe, there's quite a bit of talent that's lining up to be in Lubbock either in January or in the fall.  I think that Brewer, Daniels, Robertson and now Kennard will be enrolling in January.  As mentioned above, this counts against the 2010 recruiting class.  There's going to be a lot of turnover after the season.
