After a rough three days at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, senior D'Andra Carter changed the fortune of the Texas Tech track program with one throw as she brought home the NCAA title in the women's discus . The three-time All-American was the leader going into the finals but on the first throw was bumped to second by Arizona State's Sarah Stevens. It didn't take the senior long to take the lead back as she took the lead on her very next throw and never relinquished it. Her best throw was her final one of 182'-01". "It feels good, I am so grateful to the Lord for this because without him this wouldn't have been possible," Carter exclaimed. "I am just really happy and grateful." It is Tech's first national champion in the discus and Carter added another NCAA title to her family tree as her father Michael Carter and sister Michelle Carter have both won NCAA titles in the shot put.
