Texas Tech Track:

I started digging around and noticed that Texas Tech has a number of former and current athletes who will be competing to participate in this summer's Olympic Games.  You can find articles here and here, but thought I would save you guys some of the trouble and run them down here on DTN:

  • Sally Kipyego will attempt to compete for her home country, Kenya.
  • Sandra Iwunze will attempt to compete for her home country, Nigeria.
  • Patience Knight will compete in the shot-put.
  • D'Andra Carter will compete in the discuss throw.
  • Jonathan Johnson, a former Red Raider, advanced to the finals of the men's 800 meters of team U.S.A.
  • LaTosha Wallace, currently a volunteer assistant coach with the women's team, qualified for the finals in the 400 meter hurdles for team U.S.A.
  • Michael Mathieu (400 meters) and Andrae Williams (400 meters), former Red Raiders, will attempt to compete for their home country, the Bahamas.
  • Shereefa Lloyd (4x400 meters) is looking for a spot on the Jamaican relay team.
  • Shawon Harris, who just finished his career at Texas Tech, is looking for a spot on team U.S.A. for the 110 meter hurdles.
  • Marlon Odom, also looking for a spot on team U.S.A., is competing in the 110 meter hurdles.
  • Jason Young, the Texas Tech track strength and conditioning coach, will be competing in the discus throw for team U.S.A.

Good luck to each and every one of these athletes.  Send some good mojo and thoughts their way this week.  Wreck 'Em!!
