Texas Tech Saturday Morning Baseball Notes - Working Off His Curveball Edition

Texas Tech Baseball:

Date Texas Tech Nebraska Result
Fri. 04/04/08 @ 6:35 p.m. 2 (L: Nate Karns, 1-5) 6 (W: Johnny Dorn, 4-0) Boxscore
Sat. 04/05/08 @ 2:05 p.m. AJ Ramos (1-2, 5.29) Thad Weber (5-1, 3.20) Boxscore
Sun. 04/06/08 @ 1:05 p.m. Chad Bettis (3-1, 4.75) Aaron Pribanic (2-1, 2.41) Boxscore

That's not pretty, unless of course you're a Nebraska fan. NU's Johnny Dorn pitched 7.1 innings, giving up just 1 run and 1 hit, leading the Cornhuskers to a 6-2 win over the Red Raiders. Silver lining, Karns only gave up 4 earned runs, walked only 2 and struck out 6. I still think he's getting better. Offensively, Thennis had 2 of the 3 hits with the team's only RBI, while reliever/first baseman James Leverton had a pinch hit. That's it.

LAJ's George Watson recaps the game. Here's Coach Hays:

"He threw good tonight, but I wish we would have competed a little better," Tech head coach Larry Hays said. "He worked us away and worked us away, and he's tough. We just didn't have that many chances and you have to give him credit. But we battled."

And Doug Thennis:

"I don't think it was so much that we were confused, we just didn't make any adjustments to the outside half," said Thennis, who finished with two of Tech's three hits and scored the team's only two runs of the game. "(Dorn) was pretty much living out there working off his curveball and setting up the fastball away. We just have to make better adjustments at the plate (today)."
