I don't want to jinx anything, but 2 wins in a row is saying a lot for this team as the Red Raiders handled New Mexico State, 12-2. Starter Russ Fornea pitched 4.0 innings, giving up 7 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 6 strike outs and reliever Robert Kilcrease pitched 4.0 innings giving up 2 hits, walking 4 and striking out none. Brian Cloud closed out the game, pitching 1.0 inning, 1 hit, 1 run, walking none and striking out none.

Freshman catcher Jeremy Mayo (and Lubbock Monterey grad) went 1-3, with 3 RBI and Chris Richburg and Roger Kieschnick also each had 2 RBI for the day, Richburg going 2-3 and Kieschnick going 1-5 (again from the 6th spot). Jason Seefeld had his 7th home run of the year and also went 3-4.

LAJ's George Watson recaps last night's game, focusing on the change of attitude winning brings. Here's Chris Richburg:

"We always knew it was going to take just one game, whether we win in the last inning or blow somebody out like we did the other day," Richburg said. "We just needed one win to feel good about ourselves again ... and to forget about losing however many in a row. It just took one to get us going again and it's showed the last two games and we need to remember how it feels and go on from here."

Also, freshman pitcher Robert Kilcrease got the first win of his young career, is starting to trust his stuff:

"(Associate head coach Dan) Spencer has been helping me a lot with my mechanics," Kilcrease said. "The first two innings I was kind of going back to my old stuff. I'm throwing a new pitch ... and it's working good. He told me when I came back after the first two innings that I just needed to finish my pitches and go out and compete and trust my stuff, and that's what I did."

Fox34 on Ramos' injury and have highlights of the game. Does anyone else find it odd that they are using the theme song from Doogie Howser, M.D. at the beginning of the Ramos interview?
