Former 2022 five-star and Texas A&M defensive lineman LT Overton, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, is, according to On3’s Chad Simmons, headed to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, committing to head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Hailing from Alpharetta, Georgia, Overton was ranked as the 17th overall prospect in the 2024 cycle according to 247Sports and was widely considered a future first-round NFL Draft pick after a lengthy career with the Maroon & White. However, in just 23 appearances in the last two seasons, Overton recorded 48 tackles (18 solo tackles) and just one sack, which came during his 2022 freshman campaign. With few starts under his belt, primarily due to the vast depth the Aggies possessed in the defensive trenches this season, it was somewhat surprising that Overton chose to enter the portal instead of simply waiting out the process. Still, hey, that’s how things transpire in today’s college football landscape.
Joshua Cephus caught seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown and Kam Alexander had a 57-yard interception to help seal a 35-17 victory for UTSA over Marshall in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, as the Roadrunners registered the program’s first bowl on Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium. The Roadrunners found themselves trailing 14-0 early in the contest, but they outscored the Thundering Herd, 35-3, the rest of the way to improve to 1-4 all-time in bowl games.
Tuesday night’s Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl clash between UTSA and Marshall featured an intriguing matchup consisting of the sons of a pair of former NFL quarterbacks. The quarterback duel at the Frisco Bowl was enough to make most football fans wonder where the years went, as the sons of Chad Pennington and Josh McCown took to the field in search of bowl game glory.
Freshman sensation Juliet Cherubet showcased her exceptional prowess at the 2023 Cross Country NCAA Championships, hosted by Virginia at Panorama Farms, earning herself a prestigious All-American title on Saturday morning. Cherubet's remarkable performance saw her clinch the 18th spot in the women's 6k event with a commendable time of 19:40.10. To secure All-American recognition, runners must finish among the top-40 competitors, a feat Cherubet achieved emphatically. Throughout the race, Cherubet displayed incredible consistency, maintaining a position within the top-10 from the 1k mark to the 5k mark. Early on, she surged into a commanding second place at the 1k mark, clocking a swift split time of 2:54.70. Despite a slight decline in the final 1k, where she slipped seven spots, Cherubet's overall performance secured her the 18th position, making her the second-highest placing freshman in the competition, trailing only behind Alabama's Doris Lemngole, who finished second with a time of 19:05.70. As the Texas Tech Red Raiders prepare for a showdown against the UCF Knights, the quest for bowl eligibility takes center stage for the third consecutive season. However, the team faces challenges with the absence of key contributors on both offense and defense. Wide receiver Myles Price, dealing with an ankle injury sustained in recent weeks, won't feature in the matchup against UCF. Xavier White is expected to step in, aiming to replicate Price's impact in the passing game and punt return duties. RFD-TV Streaming

Sounds like Payton will graduate from Tech after the Summer Session ends and will seek a grad transfer. In earlier post today talked about the abundance of defensive backs on Tech's current roster and that there weren't enough reps for everyone. Sounds like Payton (who is stuck behind Jah'Shawn Johnson on the depth chart) wanted a fresh start to compete. Makes sense, especially after the influx of DB's over the last year and a half.
