If you bleed the scarlett and black, odds are that you remember the first time you saw the Masked Rider on his/her trusty steed. For many people, it was seeing the Masked Rider charge the field for a game with the football team in tow. For others, it was an appearance promoting Texas Tech. My earliest memory of the Masked Rider is a Christmas tree ornament that was hung when my family and I put the ornaments on the tree. Like I’ve said before, we are a family of Red Raiders! Below are some great videos that I was able to find on the tradition of the Masked Rider. Enjoy the companion piece to Monday's Masked Rider article.
This is a pretty good, and brief, look at what the Masked Rider goes through to prep for gameday. Who knew that the day started so early? Towards the end of the video there is a pretty cool clip "Go-Pro" style shot of the Masked Rider charging the field on gameday.
The above link goes to a video on the current horse of the Masked Rider, Fearless Champion. Fun fact, like most of us, Fearless Champion does not like to eat veggies. However, unlike most of us, he does not like sweets.
This clip, from a few years back, shows the Masked Rider charging the field before a home game. This is a good clip of it, but if you have never seen it in-person before, DO IT!!!
I hope everyone has enjoyed the first two subjects of the history lesson. The first one was on former head football coach Mike Leach and this week's on the Masked Rider. Next week, there will only be the Monday column, as I will be enjoying a vacation of the coast of somewhere beautiful. Before I go, I would like to know what your earliest memory of the Masked Rider is. Either comment below, or tweet me @ConnerCrisp. Guns Up!
