Wow, can't believe we are only 2 days away. Kind of ironic though how the first game is in Dallas (where I'm from), and I won't be there. But I ain't complaining, seeing I'm a student and get to go to all 6 home games anyway. Anyway, I really have no clue how this game will go, seeing ou QB and new coaches haven't been around very long. However, I think Tech will come out and show the world what we're made of. It will be close however, so my guess is 31-24 Red Raiders. Now to recruits (Basketball profiles):
Satchel Pierce - C (The Kiski School, Saltsburg, PA)
For some reason, Rivals states him as 6'9", but I think it's closer to 7'0 when looking at his tape. Also 247 has schools like K-State and Tech up, while ESPN and Rivals don't even list them. This kid is so tall and lanky, that he can block shots and simply reach over other players for rebounds. He has numerous blocks and rebounds in his tape, along with a few dunks (some grounded, some alley oops). I don't seem to see a lot of strength in his paint game, which makes me wonder can he withstand the tough big guys. Other than Tolbert, it seems to me like our rebounding and paint guarding seemed as an issue last year, more so than perimeter defending. Anyway, he has offers from Sental Hall and James Madison also, but seems to be really interested in Miami, who has yet to offer him a scholarship.
Mitch Solomon - PF (Bixby HS, Bixby, OK)
ESPN didn't have a profile on this kid, and 247 and Rivals don't have much other than who is interested in him, which is a lot of people. Now this kid is highly ranked of these sites though, and I can agree with them. His film (here and here from 3:20 to 4:40, with another target in Omega Harris after him). There is nothing I can complain about with this kid. He is athletic, uses strength in the paint, can maneuver around guys and has range. Now it seems that everyone is on the same level, I hope we can get this kid, but I wouldn't bet my money on it. Maybe with enough recruiting we could get him, I mean who almost got Frazier last year (but it was a different staff too). Luckily Pooh Williamson can recruit and Tubby's name shall lure in recruits, so I'm positive going into basketball recruiting this year,
Sylvester Towes is planning on visiting Texas Tech soon, and supposedly he is bringing a teammate with him. That teammate will most likely be Keland McElrath. Both of these guys are big men who are getting looked at by Kentucky and West Virgina too. They are bigger than normal players that play their respective positions. We'll see how this plays out.
Two Texas Tech verbal commits, Justin Stockton and Byron Daniels, are facing each other Friday, and according to a tweet by Daniels, the winner will where #4 at Texas Tech. Right now Marquez has the number, and will most likely be on the team next year, so who ever wins will probably have to wait a year to receive it.
Demetrius Campbell is supposedly arriving on campus today, and if he does, he will be redshirted this year due to the late start. With Hyder and Wesley entering their senior year, we will need bodies for the future, so I actually like this approach better.
Will Coleman is waiting to commit to a college, with is a good idea. Recently he got a offer from Colorado State and West Virginia this past week, but Texas Tech is still the leader. Landon Wright recently stated that Will Coleman will have a 75% chance of committing to Tech, and 95% if a SEC school doesn't offer. I like those odds.
Someone brought up a good point on a VTM story about Matt Davis and his transfer to Tyler CC. He was recruited out of High School by Auburn, Alabama, LSU and OU most notability, and I think all of them would likely open up their recruitment again. Kliff Kingsbury was the coordinator at A&M at the time, and although didn't recruit Matt Davis, he did coach up behind party boy. I don't know If Kliff would be interested in him, seeeing that he coached him, or if Davis is interested. He may not want to come because Kliff named party boy the starter, but I highly doubt that. Not much news, just something to keep an eye on.
Still no news on Terence Williams. He visited on August 9th, so three weeks would be by Friday (miscounted last post).
Apparently, Tech target Anthony Olobia has another teammate called Pierson Owensby who is ranked 86 by 247. The thing I find interesting is that we are the only school listed on 247, ESPN and Rivals.site. Now I don't know if they didn't update the information or what, but as a recruit in the mid 3-star range, it's weird to have one school looking at you.
